After nearly a year in Milan, Lucrezia was happy to be back in London. She'd missed it. This was her city, her family's city. Her father at least seemed to think he owned it, and perhaps he would someday, given the current gossip around the next PM elections. He'd made some very politically effective speeches lately, coming off as particularly compassionate, meaning he was plotting something.

It was probably a little too fast that she'd agreed to take the long term modeling contract that would take her away from London for so long. She hadn't asked Allan first. And when she told him, she'd pointed out that it was probably her last opportunity since she would age out of modeling soon enough. But he hadn't cared, not one bit. He was probably relieved. Glad she'd be away and he could stop hiding his mistress, whoever she was. Just as Lucrezia took the job in part to get away from him, from his cheating and drinking. Michael had seemed so certain that his drinking would lead to violence, just like her last husband. So it was only a stop gap, but there was a whole year where he didn't have the opportunity.

He'd seemed happy to see her, if the enthusiasm with which he dragged her to bed said anything. Though on the other hand, three days after Lucrezia's return five days ago, Allan had left on a business trip.

Which was why, as she walked out of a cafe holding a large cappuccino, it was a pretty big shock to see him across the street. A big enough shock that she dropped the cup, splattering hot coffee over her white tights (thankfully not bare legs). "Christ!" she gasped in surprise (he father would be appalled). And then she immediately spun around, afraid he might look over and see her, ignoring the cup rolling down the sidewalk and into someone's feet.

She probably looked like a crazy person. And she felt crazy, too, for being surprised at all.

Anael picked up the cup and looked over to the young woman who had dropped it, although he could only see her back. He was not the sort of angel to judge humans over taking God's name in vain (or Their son's), and he was only concerned for her, and the mix of feelings he could feel. He stepped over to her, cup in one hand, and laid his other one on her shoulder. "Miss?"

"Lucrezia," Anael breathed out in quiet surprise. But it was just like God to put him on the path of someone who might need him. "I'm fine," he added, and set the cup down on an empty table. "But you're not."

He wasn't certain quite how long ago they had met, and it did not occur to him that she might not remember him, focused as he was on her emotions.

"I'm Hani," Anael replied apologetically, as if it were his fault she did not remember him. "Let's get a cup of something warm in you, shall we?" he offered.

"Come on," Anael told her warmly, using gentle, soothing touches to usher her back inside, where it was warm.

Warmth, he found, tended to help, in all its forms.

"Well, I'm going to have a hot chocolate," Anael replied easily, instead of calling her out on her lie. "And I'd love the company."

"And a hot chocolate, please," Anael told the young man with a smile, finding a tenner in his pocket to pay both drinks.

"Think nothing of it," Anael told her with a small, warm smile, as they waited for their drinks. "It was a party, by the way. A charity you were hosting. For children."

"I have no doubt about that," Anael assured her, picking up his own drink with a grateful smile at the barista. Then, on a whim, he held his arm out to Lucrezia, however old-fashioned the action might be. "Shall we find a table inside? It's rather cold outside."

Especially since he was wearing nothing but a denim jacket over his t-shirt. He was not in the least dressed elegantly, or warmly; not that either of these things actually bothered him.

"Where have you been?" Anael asked curiously, keeping his jacket on as he sat across from her, long fingers curled around his mug.

Victoria was on her way to the cafe when the Borgia daughter dropped her coffee – because of someone she'd seen across the way, it appeared. "Come inside, dear, we'll see if we can get to that stain before it sets," she offered smoothly, as though she were simply a good samaritan-slash-society busy body. She didn't take the younger woman's arm, although there was a sense of taking her in hand if Lucrezia would let herself be steered back into the cafe.

"And maybe another coffee while we're at it. It didn't get on your coat, did it?"

Act as though people should go along with you, and often they did, especially when they'd had a shock. It had kept Victoria alive more than once, and eased the way even more. Luckily it worked today, for much more innocent reasons.

"Nonsense. You've nothing to feel foolish about. There's a table just there, if you like, and I can get us something hot to drink."

The barista had not only remembered Lucrezia – she was the sort of beauty people remembered – but that she'd had a cappuccino, and it wasn't long before Victoria joined her at the table with one for each of them, and a damp cloth in case there was any hope of blotting away the coffee-tinge from white tights.

"That's better," she said as she took her seat. "Victoria Winslow. We've never met, exactly, but you know how it can be when circles cross paths, regardless of the individuals. Faces look familiar, and then you end up wondering how you're supposed to know someone."

"We're all entitled to bad days now and again, and you looked like you'd had a shock." Victoria waved a hand, brushing away the thought. "Don't worry, I'm not going to pry. A lady deserves to have her secrets."
