Epimetheus wasn't like Prometheus when it came to powers and magic. He had power, sure, but he'd never mastered it the way his twin had. He hadn't needed to, really. He'd never been trapped in the mortal realm after all, he came and went as he pleased- Using portals. ...Portals he generally had others open for him. However, since he was traveling alone lately, the only way to pop back home for a bit was to crack one open himself, using the only spell he knew to do so. A very blunt spell, honestly, that Prometheus had scolded him time and time again for using. 'Spells like this aren't like garage door openers, you know. They don't just open one portal, they'll open any in range,' the other titan had scolded, though all Epimetheus had said in return was 'What's a garage door?'.

That had been some time ago, but Epimetheus had used the spell many times since. He'd never noticed any ill effects personally, and didn't have the foresight to see how it might go a bit wrong. So this morning when he'd popped home to see Pandora, he'd gone on as he always did- Oblivious to any trouble he might be causing elsewhere.

(Portals are opening and closing all over london, letting things into the city from other places, times, ect. The sky is the limit here! Have anything you want slip through into the city- Or maybe let your pups go stumbling through one themselves? The choice is yours! This post will be open all next week, so tag in and then check back often! As always, we trust you guys not to go too crazy with this power, but please, no wrecking the city or doing anything that might cause gamewide issues without checking in with us first. Also, like any plot, feel free to have your pups sit out or be completely oblivious to the chaos. Assume that Torchwood and the like are keeping it out of the papers. ;) Have fun!)

"I'd rather not offer a repeat performance," said Felix, pushing himself up as well. His designer shirt was torn down the side, dust and bits of leaf and twig clinging to his clothes and hair. He looked up at Finlay, his eyes squinting and blinking. It seemed to be darker here, off the tracks and closer to the woods. The bright blue of Fin's eyes seemed dimmed, somehow. Felix didn't try to stand up.

"So. We're somewhere that they build massive robots out of magic and clockwork."

We're not doing an encore then? Pity," Fin quipped quietly, nursing his ankle a bit before pulling himself to his feet and looking around.

"I thought we might have crossed to The Other Side, but if we have, we're not in the fae lands. I'm yet to meet one with any interest in technology- Or most metal in general. Well, other than myself and Pip, of course," Fin said, looking thoughtful, then glancing over at Felix. Everything was still slightly foggy, but he could see Felix was looking a bit rough.

"Are you alright?" he asked, his tone softening slightly to something more empathetic and genuine. "Are you injured?"

Felix attempted to absently brush himself off. He didn't answer right away. As soon as Finlay stopped speaking, the air around them went eerily quiet. There was a slight breeze, but not enough to rustle the leaves of the forest. The giant automaton was prone, flung half across the train tracks, and silent but for the the faint sizzling and creaking of heated metal slowly cooling down.

The wizard put a finger to his lips, then looked up at the faint light dappling through the leaves high above them. Finally, he whispered, "Shouldn't there be... something? Some kind of sound that isn't us?"

Fin fell silent as well, nodding slowly and frowning deeply. He didn't even realize he was doing it, but he moved closer to Felix then, unnerved by the eerie silence of this world.

"Maybe... Maybe we should go back and get a good look of whatever's left of that machine," he suggested quietly.

"Maybe," Felix agreed, and seemed finally able to start to lever himself up. It wasn't easy. His body felt leaden, as if gravity were too much for him to fight.

"Fin," he said softly as he got his feet beneath him. "These woods. They... want me. They want me to... to go lay down and not get back up again."

"That sounds... Not good," Fin frowned, his words often lacking elegance when not scribbled down on paper. "Tell me what you feel exactly, Felix. ...Or, um, no- No you don't feel it, do you? Magic, I mean, you- You see it, right? Tell me what you see, but don't lay down, alright?"

Stepping closer, Fin hesitated a beat before moving behind Felix, steadying him with a surprisingly firm touch. He knew Felix wasn't fond of having him (or most people, he imagined) in his personal space, and generally Fin respected that, despite his touchy nature. Now, however, seemed to be a good time to cross that line.

"Go on, I'm not going to let the woods take you- I mean, who's going to reject me at bars when I'm drunk and sulking if I let you get swallowed up by moss, hmm?" he asked, slipping into a voice more suited for the stage than his usual somewhat clumsy attempts at poshing his accent up. Fin's words were confident now, charming in a way a crowd tended to love, and made him seem slightly less like the waifish fop he was.

Distantly, Felix thought to wonder why Finlay was being so nice to him. Still just as bloody chatty through his kindness, but nevertheless, honestly kind. When Fin touched his shoulder, Felix could take a breath, grounded by something real. Or at least something more real than the massive metal monster laying cooling just a few meters away.

"I don't know what I'm seeing," the wizard finally said. "I can't see anything there. The harder I try, the more impossible it is to define, but I know... if I stopped trying, I'd know everything about it. Because it would take me over."

Felix tried to shake his head, shake himself free of the entropic tendrils creeping out from the woods.

"It wants you," Fin mused. He could feel it now, reaching out, pawing at Felix- Or maybe he was just imagining he could. Fin's imagination did have a way of getting a bit over excited at the worst moments.

"This could all be a trap," he pointed out, thinking back to the man in the mist he'd watched Felix struggle with- But thinking better of actually bringing it up. Without thinking about what he was doing, Fin rested his chin on Felix's shoulder. Not flirting or even comforting the other man, just absently touching, before snapping out of it and pulling away. "Maybe we should walk a bit, get away from that thing, and whatever's got its paws on you?" he suggested, though he sounded far from sure about that idea.

Felix's shoulder, neck, and entire spine stiffened up like stone when Fin leaned against him like that, even if it was only for a breath. One hand on his shoulder was one thing, but a man behind his back where he couldn't see, close to the sensitivity of his neck, was a sensation ingrained in his skin as something dangerous. When Fin backed off, Felix relaxed so quickly that it was obvious his reaction was completely involuntary.

"Can you see an end to these woods?" he asked, drawing a ragged breath. The train tracks led toward distant patches of light and sky, curving off slightly to either horizon. "We oughtn't leave this thing on the track. What if a train... would anyone even know what it is? Are there even people here? We need to... we need to get out of here. We need to find a way back to London."

Felix's chest felt tight, his breath coming short. He was not prone to panic attacks, but he supposed there was a first time for everything.

"You're panicking a bit, Felix," Fin said softly. "It's honestly kind of terrifying, given your usual, you know- You-ness. You're too clever to panic though, come on, just... Deep breaths, then tell me what we need to do, and I'll help. You're not alone, Felix. I may not be your ideal partner in a crisis, but I'm right here, it's alright."

Too clever to panic -- oh how Felix wished that were true. In all honesty, he didn't know what they needed to do. Didn't know how to get home. He tried to draw the deep breaths that Fin recommended, but they came stuttered, uneven, like air being let out of a balloon.

"Follow the tracks," he finally said, casting one last glance toward the now silent hulk of metal. "That's where the portal opened before. If it's coming back, it'll be there."

"A good plan," Fin said with a small nod. "See? Clever. Clever, clever fox you are, Felix," the fae added with a soft grin, nudging the wizard gently and then starting to make his way up to the tracks.

Honestly, as frightening as the robot-thing had been, it was all such an adventure for Fin.

"I'm not... you're the fox," he pointed out, his wit not really having caught up with the rest of him just yet.

Felix glanced back at the automaton one more time as they started to move away from it. "Where do you suppose that thing came from? Who made it? There was magic in it, I could see it, but where did it come from? Magic doesn't come from nowhere."

"Honestly, Felix? Not a clue. I can tell you it doesn't feel like fae magic, at least none I've ever known," Fin replied honestly. He'd been tempted to make a little joke about Felix's stint as his foxy friend, but the remains of the machine were distracting enough that the fae didn't go there.

"Seemed keen on giving you a smack though. Piss anyone off lately?" he asked, pausing a beat and then laughing awkwardly. "Anyone new or powerful, I should say. I imagine your charm is lost on people daily."

Finlay being a cheeky little sprite did more to pull Felix out of his near-panic than his trying to be comforting had done, by far. This was a more understandable sort of interaction, if nothing else. "Everyone finds me charming when I decide that they should," Felix told him, with a pointedly lifted brow, then rolled his eyes, half making fun of himself and half poking delicately back at Fin to show him he was all right.

"Between these woods and that thing, there is something very amiss in this countryside. Such a strong entropic force as what exists in the woods should have dragged the magic out of the... automaton. But just the opposite happened. That creature was drawn to our magic. I do believe it saw us as a threat."

"Wizards do almost nothing else," Felix informed him with a touch of dry humor. "I've read some theories, but as far as I'm aware, no one actually made a serious attempt to power a metal body with magic. Some schools have proposed magic-fueled engines, but the problem is that they must be constantly tended. By magicians. It's desperately inefficient."

"Well, that thing looked like it was in fine working order before it ran into us- So that kind of confirms it, yeah? Someone has to be here," Fin frowned, walking one of the rails like a tightrope now that his vision was back in full.

"In the forest that wants to swallow magic users," Felix reminded him, sounding doubtful. "If the robot's maker is here somewhere, I don't think that's someone we particularly want to meet."

He himself remained carefully between the rails, stepping along the wooden boards. In no way did he have the sort of balance or vision to attempt anything more playful. Though he did glance at Fin, curious, baffled, and perhaps just the tiniest bit envious.

"Yeah, I suppose," Fin agreed, though he was desperately curious now to learn who had built that machine. He stumbled a little, one hand resting on Felix's shoulder for a split second before he righted himself and carried on.

"I can't feel that portal- I felt it when we slipped through, it was like needles dancing up my back- Sharp, but nice. That little pinch of pain that feels just right, you know? I can't feel it now though. Can you, um- Can you see anything? Sorry, I'm not sure how that all works," he admitted. "I mean, do you have to focus to see magic? Is that why your eyes are... Nevermind, sorry, that's rude."

Felix turned his face away for a moment, which made it impossible for him to see Fin at all. He never reacted well to anyone referring to his eyes. They were a weakness, and he hated anyone knowing he was weak. "That is not why my eyes are. They just are," he almost snapped, though he was clearly trying to reign in his temper as best he could.

"Yes, I have to focus to see magic in the way I've told you about before. There is a short mental exercise that... but I don't think I want to do that here." Felix slid his hands into the pockets of his trousers, which was one of his ways of shutting down. If he didn't talk with his hands, he wasn't really talking to anyone. "I don't want to see what's in these woods."

Fin immediately felt guilty, and stepped down off the rail he'd been balancing on to walk at Felix's side instead.

"That's alright, Felix. All tracks lead to destinations, right? We don't know where we're headed, but sooner or later we'll wind up somewhere. In the meantime, I'll let you know if I feel..."

He trailed off, going still and looking around. The fae couldn't explain it, but suddenly he felt that odd tingle again, not too dissimilar to the one he'd felt before they'd been sucked through the portal. It was uncomfortable in an intriguing way for him, and he turned in place just a bit as he tried to better sense where it was coming from. It was woods each way, but it was a particularly shady looking patch of trees that called out the loudest to him.

"There's something over there," he said, fidgeting a bit as his magic tried to nudge him into changing into the fox. Safer as fox. Quicker as fox... It was a tempting thought, but Fin ignored it for now.

Felix went two further steps before realizing Fin had stopped, and came to a halt himself. He still felt uncomfortable, on edge, but at least Fin was trying to be friendly and not chiding him for being prickly or sensitive.

"The portal?" he asked, turning quite readily and moving in that direction, though he only made it to the edge of the rail before he stopped again. Felix squinted into the gloom... and then felt something under shiver and vibrate under his foot. The metal rail. Another sound, low and rumbling, was encroaching on the otherwise silent forest.

"There's a train coming," Felix realized, turning to fin in a split-second shift from curious to frozen with indecision. They had to get off the track, but the only place to go was the forest -- toward whatever Fin had thought he'd seen.

Fin could see that look of indecision, but rather than call Felix out, he simply played it off as if he was over excited.

"Yeah, the portal maybe, come on!" the fae insisted, catching Felix's sleeve and pulling him away from the tracks. The woods were unsettling, but staying on the tracks was no use right now.

Felix jumped lightly down from the slight elevation of the tracks, but as soon as his feet hit the forest floor, he clamped his hand around Finlay's wrist. Everything about this place felt wrong, but not the way that Malkar's grasp had felt wrong. This place was not malicious, it was... empty. Hungry. Confused and lost and wanting only to make anything that entered it like itself.

Fin's magic was the precise opposite: bright and creative and brimming with life. Felix's magic wasn't quite the same, but he pulled it up around him like a shield. (Like a shroud murmured in the back of his mind and he shook it off.)

The rumbling grew louder and a faint synthetic light flickered against the trees in the distance. "We shouldn't be seen by the train," said Felix without knowing why.
