Epimetheus wasn't like Prometheus when it came to powers and magic. He had power, sure, but he'd never mastered it the way his twin had. He hadn't needed to, really. He'd never been trapped in the mortal realm after all, he came and went as he pleased- Using portals. ...Portals he generally had others open for him. However, since he was traveling alone lately, the only way to pop back home for a bit was to crack one open himself, using the only spell he knew to do so. A very blunt spell, honestly, that Prometheus had scolded him time and time again for using. 'Spells like this aren't like garage door openers, you know. They don't just open one portal, they'll open any in range,' the other titan had scolded, though all Epimetheus had said in return was 'What's a garage door?'.

That had been some time ago, but Epimetheus had used the spell many times since. He'd never noticed any ill effects personally, and didn't have the foresight to see how it might go a bit wrong. So this morning when he'd popped home to see Pandora, he'd gone on as he always did- Oblivious to any trouble he might be causing elsewhere.

(Portals are opening and closing all over london, letting things into the city from other places, times, ect. The sky is the limit here! Have anything you want slip through into the city- Or maybe let your pups go stumbling through one themselves? The choice is yours! This post will be open all next week, so tag in and then check back often! As always, we trust you guys not to go too crazy with this power, but please, no wrecking the city or doing anything that might cause gamewide issues without checking in with us first. Also, like any plot, feel free to have your pups sit out or be completely oblivious to the chaos. Assume that Torchwood and the like are keeping it out of the papers. ;) Have fun!)

"Wizards do almost nothing else," Felix informed him with a touch of dry humor. "I've read some theories, but as far as I'm aware, no one actually made a serious attempt to power a metal body with magic. Some schools have proposed magic-fueled engines, but the problem is that they must be constantly tended. By magicians. It's desperately inefficient."

"Well, that thing looked like it was in fine working order before it ran into us- So that kind of confirms it, yeah? Someone has to be here," Fin frowned, walking one of the rails like a tightrope now that his vision was back in full.

"In the forest that wants to swallow magic users," Felix reminded him, sounding doubtful. "If the robot's maker is here somewhere, I don't think that's someone we particularly want to meet."

He himself remained carefully between the rails, stepping along the wooden boards. In no way did he have the sort of balance or vision to attempt anything more playful. Though he did glance at Fin, curious, baffled, and perhaps just the tiniest bit envious.

"Yeah, I suppose," Fin agreed, though he was desperately curious now to learn who had built that machine. He stumbled a little, one hand resting on Felix's shoulder for a split second before he righted himself and carried on.

"I can't feel that portal- I felt it when we slipped through, it was like needles dancing up my back- Sharp, but nice. That little pinch of pain that feels just right, you know? I can't feel it now though. Can you, um- Can you see anything? Sorry, I'm not sure how that all works," he admitted. "I mean, do you have to focus to see magic? Is that why your eyes are... Nevermind, sorry, that's rude."

Felix turned his face away for a moment, which made it impossible for him to see Fin at all. He never reacted well to anyone referring to his eyes. They were a weakness, and he hated anyone knowing he was weak. "That is not why my eyes are. They just are," he almost snapped, though he was clearly trying to reign in his temper as best he could.

"Yes, I have to focus to see magic in the way I've told you about before. There is a short mental exercise that... but I don't think I want to do that here." Felix slid his hands into the pockets of his trousers, which was one of his ways of shutting down. If he didn't talk with his hands, he wasn't really talking to anyone. "I don't want to see what's in these woods."

Fin immediately felt guilty, and stepped down off the rail he'd been balancing on to walk at Felix's side instead.

"That's alright, Felix. All tracks lead to destinations, right? We don't know where we're headed, but sooner or later we'll wind up somewhere. In the meantime, I'll let you know if I feel..."

He trailed off, going still and looking around. The fae couldn't explain it, but suddenly he felt that odd tingle again, not too dissimilar to the one he'd felt before they'd been sucked through the portal. It was uncomfortable in an intriguing way for him, and he turned in place just a bit as he tried to better sense where it was coming from. It was woods each way, but it was a particularly shady looking patch of trees that called out the loudest to him.

"There's something over there," he said, fidgeting a bit as his magic tried to nudge him into changing into the fox. Safer as fox. Quicker as fox... It was a tempting thought, but Fin ignored it for now.

Felix went two further steps before realizing Fin had stopped, and came to a halt himself. He still felt uncomfortable, on edge, but at least Fin was trying to be friendly and not chiding him for being prickly or sensitive.

"The portal?" he asked, turning quite readily and moving in that direction, though he only made it to the edge of the rail before he stopped again. Felix squinted into the gloom... and then felt something under shiver and vibrate under his foot. The metal rail. Another sound, low and rumbling, was encroaching on the otherwise silent forest.

"There's a train coming," Felix realized, turning to fin in a split-second shift from curious to frozen with indecision. They had to get off the track, but the only place to go was the forest -- toward whatever Fin had thought he'd seen.

Fin could see that look of indecision, but rather than call Felix out, he simply played it off as if he was over excited.

"Yeah, the portal maybe, come on!" the fae insisted, catching Felix's sleeve and pulling him away from the tracks. The woods were unsettling, but staying on the tracks was no use right now.

Felix jumped lightly down from the slight elevation of the tracks, but as soon as his feet hit the forest floor, he clamped his hand around Finlay's wrist. Everything about this place felt wrong, but not the way that Malkar's grasp had felt wrong. This place was not malicious, it was... empty. Hungry. Confused and lost and wanting only to make anything that entered it like itself.

Fin's magic was the precise opposite: bright and creative and brimming with life. Felix's magic wasn't quite the same, but he pulled it up around him like a shield. (Like a shroud murmured in the back of his mind and he shook it off.)

The rumbling grew louder and a faint synthetic light flickered against the trees in the distance. "We shouldn't be seen by the train," said Felix without knowing why.

Fin didn't even flinch at being grabbed. People tended to feel no hesitation to seize him or touch him, and it happened so often that he didn't even pay it much mind now. Besides, Felix didn't seem aggressive- He seemed afraid. Fearful of some threat Fin simply couldn't see, but was wise enough to believe was there if Felix said it was. ...Felix could be a twat on occasion, but Fin had never known him to be anything less than sharp.

The fae's gaze flickered to the approaching lights, and he nodded before starting off towards what looked like a ditch, surrounded by brush and bushes. It wasn't an appealing spot, but it would do.

"Then let's hide. You might be tall as a house and bright as a flame, but I'm certain you're capable of going unseen when needed, Felix."

Felix glanced at him and it lingered for a long moment, the look in his eyes strange and remote. There wasn't time to tell Fin about how he'd hidden from punishment years ago, when he had been half-feral and too small to bear the drunken abuses of the man who more or less owned him and the other children he'd grown up with. There was no time at all. Silent (for once), Felix made for the depression in the soil, tugging Fin along with him as he ducked down behind the bushes, curling himself up as small as he could go.

The steam engine came rumbling down the track, but Felix couldn't force himself to look up at it, too busy holding his magic in place against the forest's pull. The train looked like it would not have been out of place in the Victorian era, and though the lettering on the sides of the cars were legible, the words were strange. Corambis. Esmer. Names of places and destinations that did not exist in England. Nor, indeed, on Earth at all.

Fin was bolder, or maybe just foolish, and he peeked out just enough to watch the machine go by.

"Cor-am-bis," he read, sounding out the word and frowning in confusion. "That mean anything to you, Felix?" he asked in a hushed tone, sinking back down as the train rattled on. "I feel like I've heard that before. ...Some book or play or- I keep thinking Hamlet, but that can't be it."

Pulling out his phone, he started to google it- Only to remember he had no signal and tuck the device away again.

He looked like he might start rambling on some more, but paused when he glanced over at Felix. It was hard not to notice how not himself the wizard seemed, and though he knew better, he found himself reaching out to touch the other man, his hand lingering in the air between them.

"Latin," said Felix in a quiet voice as the noise of the train clattered past them. "Roughly. Meaning 'two hearts' or 'both hearts,' if it were an actual word, which it isn't. It isn't the name of any place in England. And they don't have steam engines in Faerie."

They both knew what it meant. Felix didn't want to say it out loud and make it too real.

"We need to find the portal," the wizard finally said, attempting to pull the scattered pieces of his composure back together. "I don't want my final legacy to be known as the man who deprived the Earth of Finlay Flynn."

"They might think you're doing them all a favour," Fin laughed, pleased to see Felix starting to bounce back a tiny bit. "I think I can still feel it though. Let's go deeper into the woods."

He paused a beat, aware that there was something in the air that wanted Felix, and then put his shield back up around them. "If you can make sure I don't fall on my face, I can keep us safe."

Felix was still for a moment, then bumped his arm under Fin's hand, silently and awkwardly offering that touch to guide him. Finlay was willing to give up his sight to keep them both safe. If he could do that, then Felix could manage to deal with being touched for a few minutes.

"London, at least, would go into mourning if you didn't come back. Probably all of England. Now, if I don't return, it will only be Shannon, but he'll make it at least as painful for the country, I'm sure."

Fin held on lightly, mindful of Felix's sensitivities, his other hand stretched out before him slightly, controlling the shield around them.

"I think it's better to be missed deeply by one, don't you?" Fin asked quietly. "Though I find it hard to believe Shannon's the only heart you've ever touched, Felix. ...Should we wind up lost in these woods forever, however, I hope you can cook. I'm a dreadful chef."

Felix did his best to aim them for the patch of forest that Fin had been interested in earlier, without any sense of direction and no desire to open up his magical senses to this place. In reality, he had no idea where they were going. "All the more reason to find a portal back to London, lest we risk starvation because neither of us can identify edible berries," he said dryly.

"Mmm, and we probably can't live off the only mushrooms I know how to identify," Fin replied, slowly coming to a stop.

"Were getting closer. I can feel it," he said, flinching when a branch snapped somewhere behind them.

Felix jumped as well, because up until now the woods had been silent. No birds, no woodland creatures, nothing but the occasional breeze... and the automaton. He passionately did not want to see what had snapped that branch. Felix took a deep breath, closed his eyes for a moment, and cleared his mind of everything except the magic that lived inside him.

When he opened his eyes again, he shuddered and faltered for a step. The shadows were palpable now, curling like oil smoke through the trees. It wasn't magic, not exactly, that waited in these woods. Felix had no name for it. But he could see the flickering that Finlay had sensed, now. He just wished he couldn't.

"You're right," said Felix softly, tightly. "I see it. Don't turn around. I don't want to know."

Fin nearly made a joke about how he wouldn't see even if he looked, but the air was thick with something that left him deeply uneasy. The time for humour had passed.

"Would you think me a coward if I suggested we run?" the fae asked, his voice barely more than a whisper.

"Not in the least." Felix knew neither of them would make it without the other at this point, Fin running through the dark, and Felix tripped up by shadows. He shifted his large grip to Fin's hand, so they wouldn't lose each other, and whispered breathlessly, "Go."

Fin held on, trusting Felix not to let him run headfirst into a tree. ...He panicked a little though, letting the shield weaken to restore his vision a bit. It left the world a blurry and dark mess, but it was good enough to know he wasn't about to stray off a hillside or into a rock.

He gripped Felix's hand far tighter than he'd ever usually dare, hyper aware of the noise they made as they dashed towards the glimmer that promised them a way home.

"Just ahead," Felix gasped, stumbling through the forest at Fin's side, steps uneven and breath short. But his aim was true, and the magic unfurled in a spiral ahead of them. Something hot and sickeningly damp breathed at Felix's back, and he knew they were out of time.

He curled an arm around Finlay's waist and shoved, hurling him forward to the portal.

Felix knew it was irrational and probably stupid to tackle Finlay through the portal, but the woods were closing in around him and something akin to panic took over his rational mind.

The air was different when they crossed through, which Felix could sense even as they overbalanced together and toppled over. Grass, leaves, and small twigs crunched under his hands. The light was significantly brighter, and that heavy weight of shadow was immediately lifted. Felix felt unmistakably that they were home.

"Finlay?" he asked, lifting his head.
