The Solstice was upon them. When the sun went down the magic began to swell, the veil between this world and the Other Side thin as vapor. Mortals could sense it, even, though they may not have a name for it. They gathered together, not realizing the animal instinct of safety in numbers.

But all around the city, from the dark parts, fae began to come together as well. Unseelie filled the city- boggarts and Red Caps and things unseen for many a year with bright eyes and sharp teeth. But they were tricksy, dangerous and malicious but no worse than they ever were. The real threat, the ever present danger this year, were the Milesian that crawled out of the sewers and tube tunnels to prowl they city. They were hunting tonight. They had eyes black and soulless, eyes too wide for their white, gaunt faces. Larger than their eyes were their mouth. The smile of needle fangs glinted in the street lights. Long arms ending with spidery, spindly fingers reached and clawed at passers by from the shadows.

There was a war in the city tonight and the nature of the foe, the Milesian, meant no bound mortal needed to be near any battle. Death would come to one or the other if a killing blow came down.

But there was hope. Seelie fae prowled the city as well, fighting for Light and Air. Even the Queen had seen fit to step through with her sword and shield. Such was the threat to the Fae way of life that the Milesian presented.

The longest day of the year dawned but the sunlight did nothing to frighten off the dark forces. The longest day of the year simply meant the things that went bump in the night were attacking in the light.

(Tag in, tag around! Open all week so check back. Have fun with your adventures. If you don't want any Milesian, there are plenty of Unseelie, too. Day or night, whichever works for you.)

Willy moved slowly to follow along. He nodded at Hex then went inside. Out of the sunshine it was obvious that Will was still glowing, faint and blue.

"How the hell did he die?" hes whispered, keeping Fin back a bit so he could talk to him.

"I'm glad you asked that and now about how he's alive again," Fin quipped, answering neither question as he ushered them all inside and up to the flat.

Fin stayed well out of the way, watching the pair nervously. "He had bites, on his neck and shoulders..." he offered awkwardly.

Hex listened to his heart, checked his blood pressure, and pulled his collar down to see the skin of his neck and shoulders. He was vaguely disturbed by the way Willy gently glowed.

He finally got up, giving Will's arm a squeeze, and he stepped close to Fin.

"Magic or not, he needs a hospital, Fin. His pulse is only 40, I could barely get a blood pressure, and he's cold. By all rights he ought to be dead, or close to it," he said softly.

"Hex, he can't go to a hospital," Fin insisted. "I don't have the kind of power it would take to make a whole hospital forget about treating a fairy, and even if I did... I wouldn't, and that would likely be worse, yeah? Just... If you tell me what he needs... Maybe I can heal him?"

It was a big maybe, but it was all he had.

"I've got no idea," he said softly. "People don't just come back from being dead. Maybe...i don't know...give him a reason to live? I'd think being bound to you would help him along..."

"We aren't bound anymore," Fin snipped, his tone sharper than he meant it to be. The broken bond was still such a fragile thing, It still felt like shards of glass rattling around his belly.

He missed it, and at the same time being free from it had exposed him to new emotions. Things he wasn't ready to feel. Feelings that clashed hard with how he'd felt before.

Fin watched Will for a long moment, then slowly made his way over.

"Are you hot? I could- I could get you some pyjamas, if you want," the younger fae offered. He was uneasy though, everything felt wrong in that moment. Even the air around them felt wrong.

Nodding a bit, Fin watched him go, before looking over at Hex.

"I'm sorry for dragging you out here," he said softly. "You should probably go though. I- Tonight's been a strange night. I have a lot to think about, and Will needs some sleep."

"It's alright, Fin. You know anytime you need me I'll come," he said gently, watching Will stumble his way toward the bedroom.

"Are you sure you want to be alone with him? I can stay for a bit. Until he's well asleep. Whatever you need, Fin. Anything."

"You don't have to stay, I- I have stuff I need to do. I'll be alright, I can handle Will," Fin promised, pushing his hair back and offering hex a smile. He was a wreck, but he hid it well, offering no indication of what was going on in his head.

"You're a good friend, Hex. ...I love you, yeah? You're my best mate," he added, wanting that known as his need to run continued to creep up on him.

"Same, Fin. Same all around. Best I've ever had," Hex said, moving in close to hug Fin. He knew it was a risk. Fin's magic was so bloody compelling. But as he embraced him he didn't feel any violent urges, no desire for more.

It felt like it used to. It made him catch his breath...but he wasn't about to question it.

"Ring me tomorrow, yeah? Just to let me know you're both alright?" he said, letting go and gathering his things to leave.

"Sure," Fin agreed, but it felt like a lie as he said it.

He didn't want Hex to let go, that embrace was so familiar and comforting, the manic lust that had too often come between them missing this time. All that was there was love, love for the man who'd been there for him since before the madness, and all the way through. Hex was a better friend than he deserved, no matter what mistakes they'd both made.

"Be safe, Hex," he said softly.

"You, too," he said. Reluctantly he let go, only to touch Fin's face lightly and he offered a smile. "It'll be alright. I'm sure of it," he said, then took up his kit and made for the door to leave.
