Haunted House GP

 The house doesn't exist, that's the first thing anyone who might find themselves inside it would want to know. Now, you might ask how one could find themselves inside something that doesn't exist, but you'd honestly be better off asking yourself how you could leave something that doesn't exist. After all, ideas and concepts can't be burnt or broken, and you can't breakdown a door that's not there- Or was there and then decided to be somewhere else for a while...

 

You wake in a house though, a house that doesn't exist. A house that defies the laws of reality. There are corridors that go on for days, rooms full of nightmares, and millions of doors that lead you anywhere but out. Trapped inside with you are dozens of other people, all searching for an exit, or an explanation.

 

Behind every door you'll find your darkest fears, maybe even memories you've tried to forget, or secrets you never wanted to share... 

 

(OTA! Here is your first of two Halloween gps! This one is, of course, set in the haunted house where your pup can run into anything you can dream up! Deadly traps! Spooky monsters! An existential crises! Top level your pups waking up or running into danger, and then go ahead and tag other players! Since this is all magic-y and spooky don't worry too much about time lines and who bumped into who first. Only rule is that your pup can't escape until November 1st! Have fun! Also, because there are two GPs going up this week, both are open to new top levels for two whole weeks! And, of course, you can keep tagging long after that if you want. :D I'll post reminders daily on slack.)

Em didn't say anything at first, but held out her hand for his again. It helped, having that kind of contact, when her mind kept reaching for the future.

Studying him out of the corner of her eye as they walked, she decided it was only fair to tell him, "I met Val the other day," because why else would he choose the witch over the wolf.

Jag stopped walking, his hand a little tight around hers, and turned to look at her with a frown. "What?"

"I met Val. It wasn't intentional or anything. He was walking past where I'd set up for the day, and I offered to read for him." Realizing that might not be something Jag would want to hear, she quickly added, "I didn't, though. Not once I knew he knew you."

Jag wasn't sure what he was supposed to say to any of this, so he went with a neutral, "All right."

He misses you, she wanted to say, but who knew how that would go over. "I just... I didn't want you to think I was keeping it from you or anything. That I met him, or that I know about his... moon thing."

"If you're going to tell me that's a mutation, too, I'm really going to have to call bullshit," Jag warned her, because that was a much safer topic of conversation than Val himself.

"I knew a woman who was a wolf sometimes." There was just a hint of grin as Em said it. "She said it wasn't the same, but that was during a very strange group conversation about... assbabies? I don't know. And if I have to accept that vampires are a thing, I don't see why werewolves couldn't be."

Jag blinked, and then shook his head with a chuckle. "Of course vampires are a thing."

Did he know already? Em shook her head. "This world is seriously weird. Almost nobody knows about mutants, but vampires and werewolves and freaky houses you can't get out of are real."

"How do you know you didn't have vampires and werewolves in your world?" Jag asked, trying not to think of Val too much.

[offthebeatenpath]

"I don't," she admitted simply. Her world had magic and demons as well as mutants. It could have other things as well. "But it weird having to hide what I am, when some guy I've never met can tell me I have someone he knows' scent on me, like admitting it's no big deal. Or when I have to scare some vampire off a girl he's trying to snack on on her way from the pub."

Jag frowned a little at the mention of Val and that scent thing, ducked his head, then looked up at Emma. "You're only hiding because you want to. You don't have to." Val wasn't.

"Maybe not. Maybe I hide because it's easier not being hunted. But there are reasons you carry an empty lighter, and hold back in your street shows, so it's not like I'm the only one." Tears pricked at her eyes, and Em didn't even know why she was pushing on this, when it hardly mattered, given where they were and all the terrible things waiting to happen.

"Sorry," she said, brushing the hair back from her face. "I didn't mean... We should focus on trying to get out of here, right?"

Jag wasn't sure why why there were tears in her eyes, but he was certain it was his fault. "Fuck, I'm sorry, Em," he told her, stepping closer to rest a hand on her shoulder. "Don't listen to me, I'm an idiot, all right?"

For not realising what he'd said would hurt her that much, for still not understanding why or how. He could've kicked himself.

And that cut too, the echo of too many conversations with Pyro. "You're not an idiot," she insisted, covering his hand with hers. "I'm just letting this place get to me or something, and I took it out on you."

"You - did?" Jag asked with a frown. "I don't think you did." He honestly didn't; he had no problem with the fact that he was hiding what he was from most people, so her words hadn't actually hurt. He turned his hand to take hers in it, and squeezed it gently. "Come on, let's get out of here."

"Please." She couldn't see a way out, but that didn't mean they shouldn't try, and maybe with Jag here, she wouldn't be so lost.

"What's the plan?" he asked as they resumed walking. "Walk down hallways, or try more doors?"

[offthebeatenpath]

"Hallways," she answered, more decisively than she felt. "Doors only when we have no other choice. And... up if we come to stairs. If we can get to the roof, we may be able to get out that way."

[jageskro]

"And no lifts, if we find any," Jag completed. He could imagine too many horror scenarios involving lifts.

Em's eyes widened at the thought. "Seriously. That's just asking for trouble, and we've had enough of that."

"Agreed." But as they turned into another hallway, and then another, Jag was feeling less and less hopeful about their plan. "What if it's just more and more hallways, forever?"

The idea had occurred to Em too, but she wasn't sure what to do about it. "I could throw the cards again, maybe find what we need to know, but..."

"But what?" Jag asked with a frown and, as they found another corridor, marked this one with a scorched 1 on its wall.

It was hard to explain. Or, no, not really. It was harder to admit than to explain. "I see too much. I get lost and it's hard to... to stay present. In the here and now, instead of what the cards show me flooding over everything else."
