Haunted House GP

 The house doesn't exist, that's the first thing anyone who might find themselves inside it would want to know. Now, you might ask how one could find themselves inside something that doesn't exist, but you'd honestly be better off asking yourself how you could leave something that doesn't exist. After all, ideas and concepts can't be burnt or broken, and you can't breakdown a door that's not there- Or was there and then decided to be somewhere else for a while...

 

You wake in a house though, a house that doesn't exist. A house that defies the laws of reality. There are corridors that go on for days, rooms full of nightmares, and millions of doors that lead you anywhere but out. Trapped inside with you are dozens of other people, all searching for an exit, or an explanation.

 

Behind every door you'll find your darkest fears, maybe even memories you've tried to forget, or secrets you never wanted to share... 

 

(OTA! Here is your first of two Halloween gps! This one is, of course, set in the haunted house where your pup can run into anything you can dream up! Deadly traps! Spooky monsters! An existential crises! Top level your pups waking up or running into danger, and then go ahead and tag other players! Since this is all magic-y and spooky don't worry too much about time lines and who bumped into who first. Only rule is that your pup can't escape until November 1st! Have fun! Also, because there are two GPs going up this week, both are open to new top levels for two whole weeks! And, of course, you can keep tagging long after that if you want. :D I'll post reminders daily on slack.)

"Fine, I'm fine," Val promised, wrapping an arm around Jag and smiling softly.

"You promised you'd leave if you couldn't control the flames though," he scolded. "You're lucky you woke up here. If you hadn't..."

The playfullness faded from his tone, and he held Jag just a bit tighter.

"I promised I'd do my best to be careful," Jag replied, an important distinction, he felt, and leaned in to kiss Val. He felt a little tentative doing that here, now. If this was real, if they were safe - this felt different than over there, in that crazy place outside of reality. Everything felt far more real, now.

Val felt it also, and he was almost cautious as he returned the kiss, not wanting to shatter what felt like a good moment by overstepping his bounds.

Jag deepened the kiss slightly, then pulled back, looking into Val's eyes and hoping that he himself looked less vulnerable than he felt. "So you still... want to give this a shot?"

"I do. ...If you do, that is. I'll understand if- Well, if things have changed," he assured Jag, though he looked and sounded painfully hopeful.

"No, fuck no, are you kidding?" Jag let out in a relieved breath, and then he was kissing Jag again. A lot less hesitantly.

"No, no. Not kidding, just genuinely worried you might have changed your mind," Val assured him, looking revealed and returning the kiss with a smile.

That kiss was fueled with everything they'd just lived through, and Jag wasn't even going to try to keep from pouring his emotions into it, the fingers of one hand curling on Val's shoulder, the other one squeezing Val's hand, like every part of him wanted to make sure that this was real, that he was real, and like this kiss could keep everything else at bay.

Val looked baffled by the touch at first, but soon he was smiling and touching Jag in return.

"It's real," he promised. "I'm real. We're really here. We're safe, and we're together, Jag. Honest."

"This had better be real," Jag stated, eyes flashing with anger at the thought that it might not be. It had to be. Unlike the fire - that fire hadn't been real, and it would never be real. But this, this was, Val was, the possibility of them was.

"I promise," Val soothed, tangling his fingers gently in Jag's hair, then pressing a kiss to his forehead.

It took a few long seconds for Jag to relax into that touch, but eventually he did, and just wrapped his arms around Val and hugged him close. "All right."

Returning the embrace, Val squeezed Jag tightly.

"You've no idea how glad I am that you're here. That you're safe, and well, and... Here. Here with me."

"I reckon I've got some idea," Jag retorted. Except maybe not about the 'here' bit. Although... He pulled back from the hug to glance back at the bloody mansion, then looked back at Val. "Are we alone here?"

"I believe so," Val nodded, looking at the house. "No one lives here now. It's kept only to be rented out for parties and weddings and the like."

"Good," Jag said with a half smile, and kissed Val with purpose, this time. He was terrible at having proper conversations about the things that mattered, but if there was one thing he was good at, it was conveying emotion without words. That was exactly what he had in mind, just then.

Val parted his lips, welcoming the passion and emotion as he held Jag closer and let his eyes slip shut.

He let it linger, then slowly pulled back.

"You're in no rush to go home, are you?" he asked gently. "Let's have breakfast," Val offered gently. "I'll cook. Bacon, eggs, the whole lot."

"Where are you going to find bacon and eggs?" Jag asked with a frown, too surprised by the idea of bacon and eggs being stocked in a house where no one lived to protest the overall concept of breakfast over sex. He was in no rush to go home, but it wasn't about food.

Although his stomach disagreed, and growled at the thought of it.

"In the kitchen," Val replied, perhaps a touch cautiously, worried Jag would find that upsetting. "It stays fully stocked. ...Any food that isn't eaten goes to to local schools though," he added quickly. "We're not wasteful."

So someone could stop by, Jag sussed out, technically, to check on the food in question. "Let's have breakfast," he agreed, after a beat.

It wasn't what he truly wanted, but the last thing he wanted was to give Val the impression that he really was only interested in shagging. For all that he was definitely very interested in shagging. Him, specifically.

"Really? Brilliant," Val beamed, his smile making it obvious that this one little thing meant the world to him.

Jag smiled in answer, his own less radiant but no less appreciative, as he reached up to brush a thumb just underneath that gorgeous smile. The look definitely made him feel better about it, and he leaned in to give Val a (quick) kiss. "Lead the way."

Val leaned into the touch, then nodded, eager to block out the strange nightmare they'd just survived.

It was odd, Jag reflected a short while later, as he watched Val move about the kitchen, making breakfast. He'd been instructed to sit down and let him work, so he was doing just that, and watching him. And it was odd, because he really ought to be deeply uneasy, round about then. You could have fit a small flat in the kitchens (they were big enough that Jag thought they deserved a plural), a clear sign of opulence and everything that usually made him uneasy.

But it was just the two of them, and Val moved very confidently about the space. Jag's gaze kept being drawn to the width of his shoulders, the line of his jaw, the curve of his arse. Was he supposed to find cooking breakfast sexy? Val made it sexy, right now. Jag was going to blame that on the emotional rollercoaster that had been last night, and just be glad that he could simply enjoy this moment, without anything else creeping into it.

"So where's your granda live?" he asked after a bit, forcing himself to make conversation instead of just watching Val.

"He passed," Val replied as he started to cook the eggs. "A few years back, actually. Lung cancer. He owned one of the coal mines, before Thatcher closed them. He used to go down every day while they were open. He liked being accessible to the people who worked for him. ...A good man, though it did him no favours long term."

Looking over his shoulder, he smiled at Jag. "He fought in the war as well, can't imagine that did him much good either. Though I don't believe he regretted either for even a moment."
