General Halloween GP

Halloween was as spooky or dull as you needed it to be in London. From handing out treats to those who came knocking, to attending costume parties and concerts all over the city, there was something for everyone tonight.

 

Plenty of bars and clubs were offering discounts to anyone bold enough to turn up in costume, and even the underground was bursting with holiday cheer as costumed commuters came and went, breaking up the dull day to day routine one usually faced while making your way from point a to point b.

 

Even those who chose to skip the costume were indulging in treats or maybe a creepy film or two.

 

There was no excuse to be bored. Not tonight. Not on Halloween.

 

(General Halloween GP for those who aren't keen on the haunted house! Feel free to post your pup anywhere in the city, from fancy dress parties to street corners. Go wild (or, you know, stay tame. Your call) Also, because there are two GPs going up this week, both are open to new top levels for two whole weeks! "I did!" Winter chirped, grinning brightly. "I've been living with others like me. ...Well, sort of like me. They live deeper in the forest than I ever did. It's made my hair go funny!"

He shook his head in show, the new brown and red curls bouncing around the familiar face.

"I've come to visit fae Willy and the Phouka, but they weren't home."

Felix's former annoyance melted away into a smile. "I certainly approve of the change in your decor," he teased warmly, since Winter's hair was now closer to his own in shade. "This is the night when some say the veils between the worlds are thinnest. Surely they're out causing mischief, and would welcome your contribution."

"They didn't know to expect me, it's hard to send messages from the other side. Time's a bit off," he explained, smiling and shrugging. "It's alright, I'm planning on staying a while, I'll see them when they return."

"I must say, I'm pleased to see you," Felix said, looking Winter up and down, taking in the little changes. "Of course, someone's already given you coffee and candy, so I can offer little but company."

He gestured down the sidewalk in invitation. "Perhaps you'd walk me home and tell me what you've been doing on the other side?"

"I'd like that," Winter grinned, excited, but slightly less bouncy and childish as he'd once been.

"I've been living with a new village of pixies," he said, moving to walk at Felix's side. "I thought they'd shun me, but they took me in like we were family- and now we are."

On a busy street, no one was likely to listen in on their conversation, or pay much attention to the details. Felix did not yet bother to summon a spell to dampen the words. "Oh, have you wed in to the clan?" Felix teased, warmly and with a small smile.

"No, I don't think so- And I think I'd know if I was wed at all," Winter replied, looking a bit confused.

"...Wouldn't I?"

Chuckling, Felix assured him, "I do believe you would. I'm teasing you, darling, and I'm pleased to see you're just as sweet as you ever were. I shall attempt to behave myself, but I'm naturally wicked. Speaking of which, have you been protecting your new family from the wizards?"

Winter's smile faded, and he grew serious for a moment- A new look, really, for the young pixie.

"Yes," he said, wrapping his arms around himself and nodding. "Aspid is gone, but Willy and another wizard, a good one, a friend of Willy's, they helped us enchant our homes to keep the village hidden. That way only the pixies who live there can find it. We can come and go as we please, of course, but the village is now undetectable."

Though Winter was solemn, Felix looked rather pleased. He didn't quite smile, because this was a serious matter. "I'm pleased to hear it, darling. You're standing up for yourself and your people. A few more seasons and you may become quite the hero."

"A hero?" Winter asked, perking up and standing a bit taller- Or as tall as he could given his small stature. "Really? Like with a sword and things?" he asked, grinning and pretending to cut through the air.

[harrowgate]

"Just so. You'd be very dashing with a sword," Felix said with certainty. "Though it isn't the weapon that makes the hero. Quite the opposite, in fact. Who would know a thing about Excalibur if Arthur had not wielded it?"

"I don't know what that is," Winter replied, looking puzzled. "Was he a wizard?"

How odd. Felix had presumed that the Fae would be very well-versed in the Arthurian legends, considering how deeply entrenched it was in the collective imagination of Britain, not to mention the entanglement of history with the country's magical lore.

"A king," Felix answered, brows lifted. "A legend here in England and around the world. You don't have the tale of Arthur, Camelot and Merlin on the other side?"

Winter had been kept and sheltered for much of his life. There was much the little pixie knew nothing of.

"We may, but Aspid told me no such story. He didn't like to tell me anything that might excite me too much."

[harrowgate]

"You're free to get as excited as you like, now," said Felix firmly, but with a small smile. "Well, I'm hardly a story-teller, but the legend goes that Arthur was given the sword Excalibur by the Lady of the Lake as a sign of his kingship. The king was worthy of the sword, and hardly the other way around."

"I know the Lady of the Lake!" Winter squeaked excitedly. "...Well, I know a lady who lives in a lake. Though I suppose she's not really a lady, just lady shaped."

Felix knew Robin Goodfellow; he knew how a creature could be not precisely a man but most definitely man-shaped. "Do you? What sort of, er, being is she?"

"She is Rusalka," Winter supplied cheerfully.

Felix managed a quick mental inventory of his knowledge about Slavic folklore. "Does she have red hair like us, by chance?" he asked with a faint smile.

"No, she is clear as the pools in the crystal caves near the fae lands," Winter said, though he grinned a little as he shook the mass of brown and red curls on his head. "And my hair is not nearly as spirited as yours Felix. Mine is more like the last log on the fire at night."

[harrowgate]

"You're still a member of the ginger family," Felix declared. "I suppose mine is the bonfire whilst everyone is dancing their wildest. It would certainly explain the snarls I have to comb out in the morning."

Winter lit up at being told he was part of a family, and he nodded a bit as he studied Felix's hair and then touched his own.

"I do like it very much," he admitted. "It feels much more alive than before. Wild and free- Like I am now."

Felix couldn't help his smile, as much as he tried to bite it back. Winter brought out his softer side. He supposed it was unlikely that Winter could ever use it against him. "You were lovely before, and you are lovely now. Though I do enjoy your newfound independence. Perhaps while you're here, you can meet my love, Shannon. I'm sure he would find you enchanting."

"Oh! I'd like that very much," Winter said, smiling brightly and bouncing just a bit. "I'd love to meet the one who holds your heart."
