Gathering Post - Christmas Eve Party

Merry Christmas!

You are invited to celebrate the season with Finlay Flynn and Willy Silver.

 

When: Christmas Eve (5pm – Midnight)

Where: Making the Modern World - The Science Museum

Upon entry you'll be given a ticket for one free drink. All drinks after that are 5 each. There will also be a free buffet in the dining area.

 

Dress code: Casual, but tidy please!

 

Raffle: Come wearing a festive sweater and you will automatically be entered into a raffle to win a 65 inch TV.

 

Donate: Bring three tins of canned food to be donated to the local food bank, and receive an extra drink ticket.

Look forward to: A live DJ, live music, an appearance by Santa, gift bags with deluxe swag, and the company of old and new friends!

 

(OTA! Happy holidays! If you know Fin, Willy, Phouka, or Winter, feel free to assume they gave you an invite. If not, you can say your pup got an invite through a friend of a friend, someone who knows someone, ect. It IS invite over (no gate crashing pups please, Fin's a giver and would want everyone to feel included), but the pups hosting the party are pretty active and I believe they know almost everyone in the game. And the people they don't know surely know people who do. Even if you only met them once, you got an invite somehow! This gathering post is open all week, and beyond!)

Sunny laughed, not quite brushing that assessment aside but perhaps not taking it seriously. "Should I take that as a challenge to find a truly hideous sweater?"

"That wasn't my intention, but by all means, please do," Fin teased. "Really though, I'm glad you're here. Are you having a good time?"

"I can't imagine anywhere in London I'd rather be right now," Sunny said with a warm, genuine smile. "Though Catholic guilt is trying to tell me to be in church instead."

"Oh? Is that what you usually do on Christmas Eve?" Fin asked. "You know I'll not be offended if you slip off early, Sunny. I'd understand."

"I go with my family." And given she was a student studying abroad... she didn't really feel a need to elaborate. Sunny shrugged. "I'd rather be here."

Fin's expression softened slightly, and he nodded in understanding.

"Did you bring a date?" he asked curiously. "I can't recall if you put down for a plus one or not."

Sunny lowered her eyes and shook her head with a shy smile, as though the question was somewhat ridiculous. "Oh, no. I came alone. Knowing I'd meet friends here was plenty."

"I'd just heard a rumour that you and the Phouka were getting friendly is all," Fin smiled, though he didn't nudge for her to tell him more. Fin wasn't the sort to pry. "He's here, you know. ...Somewhere. Will's got him doing something for him, though I couldn't, for the life of me, tell you what."

That was when Sunny started to blush, mostly because she was wondering what the hell he'd heard and from who, and her smile widened and became a little silly. "I'm aware he's around here, yes."

"You should go say hello," Fin nudged, then paused. "...Just, um, mind Winter. He can be a bit- What's the word I'm looking for? Greedy? No... Jealous, I think might be the right word. He gets himself all worked up any time he's not the centre of attention, and he's getting a bit too accustom to having the Phouka's attention all to himself."

"Winter is a child still in a lot of ways," Sunny answered with a shrug. Not all, but enough. "He told me about how you two have been getting on not long ago. I hope I didn't make that worse."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Mmm, he gets upset when he thinks Will's spending too much time with me, or when I tell him not to do things that might lead to his death, or at least physical injury," Fin replied. "Though he's been slightly better lately. Perhaps you have more influence over him than the rest of us," he smiled.

"I've had many years of practice being the wet blanket," Sunny quipped, her lips quirking in a faintly self-deprecating smile. "I like to put them to good use. But from what I can gather, you may just need to let him hurt himself before he gets it."

"Sunny, he's letting wild animals chase him while he's tiny," Fin said quietly. "He's likely to get ripped to bits."

"I'm not saying it's not dumb," Sunny agreed without contest. "I'm saying those are the kinds of lessons you get in his world. You get out of scrapes, learn your limitations, conquer your fear, or you... don't."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"He could be killed," Fin said, frowning deeply. "He's a little shit, but I couldn't stand to see him harmed. I couldn't."

"I know," Sunny said softly. "It's not about wanting to see someone hurt. It's about having faith that he's strong enough to take care of himself." It sounded insane, she knew, but really to make being chased by cats not seem as crazy she went ahead, "My first lesson--which I had to sneak out for, at midnight, after having to teach myself to turn invisible--my teacher Anatov sent me and three other kids into a soul-eating death forest. Sasha was the oldest of us, and even he wasn't quite fourteen yet."

"I understand what you're saying, I do, but- He''s... He's not like you, Sunny," Fin sighed. "As mad as sending children into a soul eating death forest sounds, I look at you and I think- Yeah, she can look after herself. I'm sure even as a girl, whatever lunatic did that to you saw how strong you are. ...But Winter? He's... He's so fragile, and he's not the brightest."

"My education is something that I've never stopped struggling with," she admitted. Sunny had been furious with Anatov for a while after that, but since then she'd grown to love him dearly, like an uncle.

"Do Willy and the Phouka have the same fears for him?"

"Will's admitted it's dangerous behaviour. I don't know about Phouka," Fin sighed.

Sunny nodded. "He's probably more likely to listen to them."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"I don't think Winter listens to anyone," Fin said, offering a soft and unsure laugh. "Maybe though. ...Maybe. I don't think he intends to stay much longer anyway. Seems pretty sure he's leaving in the spring."

That was a lesson at the heart of Sunny's magical training. Listen to your elders, they are not responsible for your stupid choices if you don't. But that she didn't say. "Persephone in reverse," she observed. Then wrinkled her nose. "Or something."

Fin chuckled at that, then smiled. "Honestly, if I learned tomorrow that Winter himself now controls winter, I'd believe it I think. I've certainly seen and heard madder things than that."

Sunny tried to swallow a laugh and just ended up making an undignified snort instead. "Well, now we can never let him know about this idea. Otherwise he'll turn up at high summer just to test it."
