"Not when I con mates into coming over," he grinned and winked at Danny quickly. He took the noms into the kitchen and put the kettle on.
"I got Fallout 4, do you want to play? Or we can just chat if you like. And you're more than welcome to stay the night. Guest bed or mine...I don't mind."
no subject
"Um, let's just chat," Danny suggested. "I'm not really a gamer."
no subject
"Alright," he smiled. "What are you going to do with your hundred quid?"
no subject
"Groceries, probably," Danny admitted. "That's enough to get a massive bag of rice and fill the freezer. Maybe save half to kick towards rent."
no subject
"Brilliant. I don't know what to do with mine. Save it, I reckon," he replied.
no subject
"Saving up for something fun?" Danny asked, sitting down as he looked around the room. It was odd seeing Hex here. Somehow it just didn't feel like the other man's space.
no subject
"Not right now, but I like to have some savings so if I see something I want I can get it...or if someone needs help I've got a bit put away that I can use," he replied.
no subject
"Smart that, if you can manage it," Danny nodded.
no subject
"I'm getting enough Web revenue...I can do that. And I suddenly had more money when I stopped drinking, too. Fancy that," he chuckled. "I'm flush. No worries."
no subject
"Lucky," Danny replied, without a trace of envy. He was genuine when he said things like that. Even though he had nothing, less than nothing, he could still smile at the fortune others found.
no subject
"It is lucky. I'm...a pretty lucky fellow, all told. But I like to share me luck as much as I can. Which is why you have whotsits and I have a mate to pester for the night," he grinned.
no subject
Danny smiled softly at that, nodding and then falling silent again for a moment.
"Lonely though," he noted after a beat, not unkindly.
no subject
"A bit, yeah. More now that Spencer's moved back to the states. I miss her. Sent her a Christmas card," he said with a bit of a smile. "I keep thinking of taking on another room mate but I'd have to clear it with her first. And not in her room, that's for when she comes to London. But I could rent out the guest room cheap."
no subject
no subject
"I could. Or I could get Spencer to approve something low and reasonable for someone I know and trust. Like you or Matthew from work or like, I don't know. Background check isn't a bad idea though," he agreed.
no subject
"Oh, I couldn't rent from you," Danny said, shaking his head. "Can hardly pay rent where I am now."
no subject
"Yeah, but you're getting a job, remember? A proper job. We'll sort it out. I'd understand if you didn't want to leave your flatmate without help, but if you wanted...well, think on it," he said.
no subject
"I might get a job," Danny corrected gently. "And if I don't, I don't want you to get worried, alright?" he added.

Hex was quiet for a moment and then nodded.
"Alright. But I have a good feeling, Danny. I do."
no subject
"I very much hope your feeling is right then," Danny smiled, reaching over and giving Hex's arm a squeeze.
no subject
"It's going to be a new year, soon. Time for a fresh start, yeah? New year, new life. Don't you like that sound of that?" he said.
no subject
"I suppose- Though for all this year's not been the best- I'm sad to see it go. ...I'm not looking forward to a new year without Alex," he confessed quietly. "I think about all the things he'll never see, that I'll never tell him, and... I ache. The future's a painful thought for me still."
no subject
Hex's heart bled for him and he could almost feel the ache. Just a hint of it. He reached out and pulled Danny in to give him a one armed hug.
"I know, mate," he said. "Just take it one day at a time."
no subject
Danny let himself be pulled in, wishing the embrace could melt away the pain- But the ache simply lingered, the way it always did.
"I know. I'm alright Hex, really, I'm just... Feeling it, that's all. I don't think that's a bad thing."
no subject
"It's not. You're not going to get over Alex. This will probably always hurt. I'd never tell you otherwise. I won't lie to you."
He had his own hurts he carried and no one could change what had happened. He just had to live with it.
