Haunted House GP

 The house doesn't exist, that's the first thing anyone who might find themselves inside it would want to know. Now, you might ask how one could find themselves inside something that doesn't exist, but you'd honestly be better off asking yourself how you could leave something that doesn't exist. After all, ideas and concepts can't be burnt or broken, and you can't breakdown a door that's not there- Or was there and then decided to be somewhere else for a while...

 

You wake in a house though, a house that doesn't exist. A house that defies the laws of reality. There are corridors that go on for days, rooms full of nightmares, and millions of doors that lead you anywhere but out. Trapped inside with you are dozens of other people, all searching for an exit, or an explanation.

 

Behind every door you'll find your darkest fears, maybe even memories you've tried to forget, or secrets you never wanted to share... 

 

(OTA! Here is your first of two Halloween gps! This one is, of course, set in the haunted house where your pup can run into anything you can dream up! Deadly traps! Spooky monsters! An existential crises! Top level your pups waking up or running into danger, and then go ahead and tag other players! Since this is all magic-y and spooky don't worry too much about time lines and who bumped into who first. Only rule is that your pup can't escape until November 1st! Have fun! Also, because there are two GPs going up this week, both are open to new top levels for two whole weeks! And, of course, you can keep tagging long after that if you want. :D I'll post reminders daily on slack.)

Val nodded, following and sniffing the air again.

"It's musty in here- Airless. Like a room without windows."

"Like there's no way out, perfect," Jag stated, picking up the pace as he strode down the hallway. He clenched and unclenched his fists, a nervous gesture, and resisted the urge to create a little fire. Who knew where that would lead, in here.

"This the way you actually look like, then?" he asked, to fill the silence, and because he wanted to know.

"Yes," Val replied, prowling along at Jag's side. "Though usually things aren't so clear for my mind, and I'm fairly positive I'm not this chatty."

"I'm just going to be thankful you'd rather chat than feast on my entrails today," Jag replied, and winced as soon as the words were out.

"Lucky for both of us, I don't need that kind of guilt on my conscience," Val replied, a slight growl to his tone as he started to walk a bit faster.

Jag let himself fall a step or two behind, wincing and rubbing a hand over his face before pushing it back through his hair. He ought to just shut the fuck up. Anything to stop putting his foot in his mouth.

When they reached the end of the corridor, it spread in two directions, seemingly identical to what they'd just seen. This place had been upgraded from creepy to freaky, if you asked Jag.

"Got a favourite direction?" he asked Val, trying to ignore his own rising panic.

Val sniffed the air, then nodded to the right. "I think I can smell people this way."

"And you think that's a good thing?" Jag checked, because given the way things had been so far, he wasn't so sure.

Val's tail lowered slightly, and he seemed unsure.

"I don't know," he admitted. "They might know the way out though- Or they might be in trouble."

"Or they might be trouble," Jag stated, hesitating for a second further before stepping the way Val had indicated. "Might as well try our luck."

Val followed along, keeping close to Jag's side, and keeping on guard.

"We can defend ourselves," he assured the other man. "I've got sharp teeth, and you've got a tongue sharp enough to slice a man's heart out," he muttered.

Jag clenched his teeth to stop himself from using that supposedly sharp tongue then and there. He counted to ten before he felt able not to snap at Val. "So you can defend yourself, and I can snark at danger until it guts me," he muttered, once he was. "Wicked."

"If that fails, you have your flames, don't you?" Val asked.

"I don't know," Jag answered with a frown, clenching and unclenching his hands. "I couldn't control them, back there." So he hadn't wanted to try again, just in case he set more things on fire, fire that he couldn't put out.

"Has that ever happened before?" Val asked, giving Jag a curious sniff, then nuzzling at his hand curiously as the wolf in him took over for a moment.

Jag frowned at the nuzzling and then raised his hand once it had stopped, rubbing it with his other one as if he could will the fire to come the way it always had. Not that he would dare try, not if he wasn't sure he could kill it just as easily. Not when he wasn't sure he could stop, not after the screams in the flames, back in that room. "No, but I've never woken up in a creepy place made of hallways and nightmares, either. Happy bloody Halloween."

"No, me either," Val replied, slowing slightly and looking uncomfortable. Wincing, he stretched his paws out, then made a low sound of pain.

The wolf collapsed, hitting the floor with a thud, and a heavy fog filled the hall as Val's body slowly shifted and changed back to its mortal form.

"Are you..." Val collapsed before Jag could finish his sentence, and he was by his side in an instant, although he jerked back at the sudden appearance of the fog. When it cleared, Val was there on the floor, looking very much human. "Shit, are you all right?" It only then dawned on Jag that the wolf might now be in command, all things considered, and he stopped himself halfway to touching Val.

Val groaned in pain, sitting up slowly and noting his nudity.

"Lovely," he sighed, not bothering to cover himself as he got to his feet. "Just what I want to be- Naked in a house of supernatural bollocks."

Jag let out a relieved sigh when Val spoke, and failed to turn on him. Still that side of him, then, good. He dropped his hand onto his knee, then pushed up to his feet as well. "How're you feeling?"

The only time he'd seen Val after a shift, the man had been in a fairly poor state. (But of course he'd only cared about shagging him, hadn't he. He ignored the bitter voice at the back of his head.)

"Sore," Val confessed, glancing at Jag, then back down at himself. "Chilly as well," he added, rubbing his shoulder as if it ached, then looking around the hall again.

"I wonder if any of these rooms have a wardrobe I can raid."

"One that doesn't have teeth," Jag stated, since with this place, who knew what was possible. He wished he was wearing more than an old t-shirt and a pair of jeans, so he could've lent something to Val. Seeing him naked (he quieted that bitter little voice before it said anything, this time) wasn't exactly an eyesore, and that was what made it sit uncomfortable in Jag's lungs.

"Unpleasant thought," Val agreed, glancing down at his most vulnerable parts and wincing a bit.

"Risk worth taking though, I'd rather not be nude in the face of danger," he added, starting to open doors as he spoke. Most of the rooms were empty, but one stood out. A grubby looking room that Val recognized from the brief time he'd spent in Mexico, not long before he'd finally gotten his life back on track.

Uncomfortable, he slipped inside- Hoping that Jag wouldn't notice the empty bottles and the rather impressive amount of drug paraphernalia that littered the room as he made his way over to the suitcase on the bed.

Jag followed behind him, unwilling to stay alone in the corridor. What if the door slammed shut and he found himself on his own? No, he'd much rather stick with Val.

And he was immediately distracted by some of the drug paraphernalia on the table by the window. He picked up a bag of what appeared to be weed, opened it and smelled it; it smelled like the real deal, and some good shit, at that.

Hey, once a scavenger, always a scavenger. He zipped up the small bag and shoved it into his back pocket, then grabbed some skins and a pack of cigarettes to put in another pocket. The harder drugs he didn't touch; they weren't his style. Instead, he turned back to Val, not having realised that he used to live here.

"Found something you can wear?"

"Yes, this will do," Val said quietly.

The jeans and t-shirt were nothing noteworthy, but the heavy boots and familiar leather coat were staples of Val's wardrobe. Distinctive items that he wore often, items that were unique to him.
