Haunted House GP

 The house doesn't exist, that's the first thing anyone who might find themselves inside it would want to know. Now, you might ask how one could find themselves inside something that doesn't exist, but you'd honestly be better off asking yourself how you could leave something that doesn't exist. After all, ideas and concepts can't be burnt or broken, and you can't breakdown a door that's not there- Or was there and then decided to be somewhere else for a while...

 

You wake in a house though, a house that doesn't exist. A house that defies the laws of reality. There are corridors that go on for days, rooms full of nightmares, and millions of doors that lead you anywhere but out. Trapped inside with you are dozens of other people, all searching for an exit, or an explanation.

 

Behind every door you'll find your darkest fears, maybe even memories you've tried to forget, or secrets you never wanted to share... 

 

(OTA! Here is your first of two Halloween gps! This one is, of course, set in the haunted house where your pup can run into anything you can dream up! Deadly traps! Spooky monsters! An existential crises! Top level your pups waking up or running into danger, and then go ahead and tag other players! Since this is all magic-y and spooky don't worry too much about time lines and who bumped into who first. Only rule is that your pup can't escape until November 1st! Have fun! Also, because there are two GPs going up this week, both are open to new top levels for two whole weeks! And, of course, you can keep tagging long after that if you want. :D I'll post reminders daily on slack.)

The touch was a comfort that Val didn't want to part with, and he nodded as he casually held on in return.

"We've not had much luck following my nose- Which way do you suggest next?"

"I..." Jag trailed off in thought, chewing on the inside of his cheek, then looked at Val. "Maybe we ought to go back. To where we woke up?" It seemed to fit with what Dora had said. He didn't know if following that hunch was a good move, but why not? It wasn't as if they had a better plan than that, anyway.

"The room you woke up in was on fire, Jag," Val replied, his brow creasing deeply in concern.

"I'm supposed to claim it, aren't I?" he answered with a one-shouldered shrug.

"Yes, that's what the woman who looked like your friend said- But clearly she was just a part of this place, Jag! It could be a trap. It feels like a terrible idea," Val sighed.

"Have you got a better one?" Jag asked, eyebrows raised. Part of him really hoped that Val did, but on the other hand, the idea of going back to the fire appealed. Not that of going back to the screams inside it, but he was hoping that if he managed to claim it, they would fade away.

"Well, no... But there has to be a better way. There has to be an exit- An actual exit, not some metaphorical bollocks," Val insisted. "Going back there is madness, Jag."

"Why? The fire won't burn me," Jag retorted. He might not have been able to put it out, but his clothes hadn't been so much as singed. He frowned. "What was it like where you woke up?"

"The woods," Val frowned. "Or... It looked like the woods, but the plants were all faux, and there was no wildlife but myself."

"It makes sense, what she said," Jag stated, squeezing Val's hand slightly.

"What if she's wrong, Jag? You might survive those flames, but..."

He wouldn't, and he'd felt the heat in that room before.

"But what?" Jag asked with a frown, and then only understood what Val was getting at. "Oh, no, I'm going in alone."

"The hell you are," Val replied with a scowl. "I'm going with you."

"No, you're not," Jag answered, with a shake of his head for emphasis. "If I still can't control it..."

"And what am I supposed to do Jag? Should I go lay down in that forest and pray that the rules haven't changed? That you wont end up hurt or... Or god forbid..."

Val trailed off, a pained look on his face.

"I don't want to be separated from you."

Jag really couldn't stand to see that look on Val's face. He let go of his hand to step closer and cup his face in both his hands. "Nothing's going to happen to me, all right?" He was surprised at how certain he sounded, when he felt everything but. "But I - we've got to try and do something."

Val scowled, then sighed.

"Fine. Fine, alright- We'll try it," he said quietly, covering Jag's hands with his own and leaning in to rest his forehead against the other man's.

"You better be bloody careful though. Promise me."

"I don't know what would be worse," Jag answered, quietly, but there was a riot of emotions in his eyes, as he stared into Val's. "For this all to be real - or for it to be a dream." He didn't want to wake up and not have the possibility of this. He kissed Val with that sentiment, then murmured against his lips, fervently, "I promise, I'll do my best."

"You better," Val growled, returning the kiss with just a hint of aggression and need. "I don't want to lose you. Thinking you hated me was one thing, but... Be careful. Just... Be careful, alright?"

This was not the time to point out that Jag seriously sucked at being careful, no. Instead, he kissed Val again, with that same fierceness, his hands fisting in his shirt. "We're not even sure we'll find that room again," he said, since that was the most reassuring thing he could think of right then. Which was, in itself, hardly any sort of reassuring.

"I know you think you're being reassuring, but your not," Val assured him, touching Jag's cheek, then smiling softly as he tried to ignore the panic and dread he currently felt.

"Perhaps we ought to split up," he suggested reluctantly. "This hall changes every time we step back into it. Maybe all we need is for one of us to find the right room. Maybe that's enough."

Now it was Jag's turn to look very unhappy with the idea. But he ignored that, since he didn't fancy being a hypocrite, and reluctantly nodded. The thought of putting himself in danger was just fine, but that of Val being in danger... "Yeah, all right. But you be careful too."

"I will, I promise. Truly," Val assured him. "If we have no luck, we'll try and meet back here, alright?"

"Follow the smell of sage, right?" Jag said with a quick smile, like it was a joke they shared. But no. There was nothing funny about any of this. He kissed Val again, reluctant to let go, for fear it would be the last kiss, the last time being with him.

"Right," Val replied, forcing a nervous laugh as he let his hand linger on Jag's arm. "...Right."

He sighed, then looked down the hall.

"I'll see you on the other side," he promised after a moment. "However we get out of this place- I'll see you, I promise."
