"Danny, it's a gift. Willy's so excited for everyone to have a gift. Please take it. It's Christmas, " he said. "Everyone gets the same..."

Danny hesitated, then nodded.
"I really could use a new phone," he admitted, pulling out his old beat up looking Nokia and looking at it.

"Then it's all settled. If you want to say thanks, Fin's that one and that bloke over there with the huge afro is Will. You want me to introduce you?" Hex offered.
no subject
"No. No, I'll send them a letter of thanks," Danny said, not wanting to meet them while he was still feeling so shaken. "I still might leave, actually. I'm not- I'm not feeling very festive."
no subject
"Would you like me to see you home?" Hex asked gently. "I'm happy to. Let me grab me coat and bag..."
Before Danny could say no he bolted to the table where his things were. He didn't say any goodbyes, only returned to Danny's side.
"Let's go."
no subject
"Oh, cheers. ...Are you sure though?" Danny asked.
no subject
"Absolutely. To be honest I'm not sure how many more times I can turn down free drinks," he said. Said it lightly, but with Hex's addiction it was anything but light. This gave him an excellent out.
As they walked out he didn't think to look back and see if Spencer saw him leaving with someone else.
Out on the street Hex went to hail a cab.
"So what did James do?" he asked. "That's clearly what's got you on edge. What did he say, Danny?"

Well it was most definitely something and if Dany didn't want to talk about it then Hex was going to make a point of talking to James. The man couldn't be frightening people like that, and he shouldn't take it out on Danny if he was upset about what Hex had done to Q in the men's room.
He zipped up his coat and with his gift bag dangling from his wrist, he plunged his hands into his pockets.
"All right," he said. "It'll be nice to walk. Clear our heads."

"Oh good. Don't let James ruin it all for you. Fin and Will wanted everyone to have a good time," he said. "I'm going to have to bring you round to their place so you can meet them, proper. They're great people. Wills wonderful and Fin's me best mate. Best I've ever had," he said.
no subject
"Yeah? I didn't get a chance to say hello, but I'm sure he's lovely if he's your best friend," Fin smiled. "You're a good bloke, I can't imagine you liking the bad sort."
no subject
"I used to, but I got out of that. The army really turned me around, and just after I got sober I met Ace and traveling was brilliant," he said. "I'm a new man, now, Danny. And if I can turn me own life around, anyone can."
no subject
"Yeah? You implying mine needs changing?" Danny asked, not angry, just curious.
no subject
"Not you in particular. Just anyone," he replied. "Your life right now is a hot mess, but I think you'll sort it. If you gave up whatever Alex left you you might have a better chance, though," he pointed out and then immediately raised his hand to hold off the argument. "I know you won't, and I understand why. I'm just afraid for you, Danny. That's all."
no subject
"You don't have to be, Hex. I'm a survivor, Hex. I survive," Danny assured him, giving his arm a squeeze and offering a bright smile.
no subject
"I know, Danny. And I know I've no right to fuss over you so much. We've only just found one another again. But that's what I do. I fuss over all me mates, so now you get me as a mother hen, too," he laughed.
no subject
"Not terribly sexy there, Hex, but alright," Danny teased softly.
no subject
Hex jerked his arm in against his body, jerking Danny in turn. He laughed as he did it. Laughing came easily with Danny, he'd found.
"Shut up," he said, not meaning it in the least. "I bet you're the same. Let a friend crash at yours, pay what you can. Donate to charity when you can...I'm not wrong, am I?"
no subject
no subject
'i think I might be projecting, yeah," he laughed. "So what sort are you? When someone asks for a cigarette outside the club do you offer up or pretend you're out?"
no subject
"Well, cigarettes are different, you always share if you have a spare," Danny scoffed.
no subject
"Alright, fair enough," he laughed. "Maybe that was a bad example. "
no subject
"So how'd you wind up friends with someone off the telly?" he asked curiously.
