The Queen's official birthday celebrations might wait for the better, brighter weather of June, instead of the actual date just passed, but there was no lack of things to do in London this week, even if it was cooler and damper than the week before. St. George's day festivities were scattered throughout the city, competing with celebrations of the four hundredth anniversary of Shakespeare's death. Getting around the city could be even more difficult than usual on Sunday, with multiple streets closed off for the London marathon.

There were exhibits - everything from graphic design to a survey of Sicilian history to the influence of underwear. And the same level of diversity could be found whether you were in the mood for music, theatre, good food, or late night fun. There was something for everyone, and no matter your plans - or lack of plans - you never quite knew what you were going to find, or who might find you.

Hex settled in beside him and nodded.

"Cupcakes are very nice. They'd be even more special if you only had them on special occasions. Then they'd be extra tasty because they'd be rare," he reasoned.

"That's dumb," Winter replied, scowling to himself, then sighing. "But I suppose it could be true," he allowed.

"It is true," Hex insisted with a smile. "Isn't there anything you have in your life that you enjoy more simply because you don't get it all the time?"

"No," Winter chirped. "I love all the things I have always."

[just_hex]

"Really?" he asked, a bit surprised. Hex wondered what it must be like to live life the way Winter did.

[winter_wisp]

"Really," Winter nodded, shrugging one shoulder, then smiling. "Why would I ever deny myself what makes me happy? And why would that joy ever deplete? I see my Phouka every day, but I don't love him any less because of that..."

"I think loving him is different than loving ice creams and cupcakes," Hex said with a smile.

He hesitated.

"I'm in love," he confessed then.

Winter loved, but still didn't know what it was to be in love.

"Oh?" he asked curiously. "With who? ...It can't be Finlay, he is loved by Fae Willy, and he would surely remove your innards if you were to steal him."

"Fin? No! No, not Fin. I love him, but he's me best mate," he replied, not enjoying much the thought of Will removing his innards.

"His name's Danny. He's...wonderful."

Winter cocked his head slightly to one side, then frowned.

"What makes him wonderful enough that you would bind yourself to him?" he asked, assuming that there had to be quite a good reason.

"Oh, erm, I don't think we're to that point yet," Hex said sheepishly. "I just...he's wonderful Winter. He's kind and he's honest and he's good to me. And I want to be good to him. I love being with him. He makes me happy."

Winter wasn't sure 'kind and honest' was enough to fall in love with. Lots of people were those things.

"That seems generic, but okay," Winter shrugged, not interested enough to push for more, even if he did find the idea of being in love interesting.

[just_hex]

"Maybe it sounds that way, but it's not. I'm not a poet. Never been great with words, yeah? But he makes me feel..."

Hex sighed softly.

"...Loved. He loves me. That's nothing I've ever had."

Winter nodded, then shrugged.

"Okay," he replied simply, accepting Hex's answer for what it was. Honestly, he sometimes worried the idea of being in love was simply not something he was meant to understand.

Hex felt awkward then and rubbed the back of his neck carefully, gentle with his healing muscles.

"So...what are you doing out today? Other than having ice cream?" he asked.

Winter shrugged, dragging the toe of his shoe across the pavement.

"Nothing really. No one is home right now though, and I hate being left on my own."

He paused then, looking thoughtful. "You could come over though. Then I wouldn't be alone."

"Come to your flat?" he asked, considering that. He saw no reason not to. Winter was lovely and Hex knew he had games and such. "Alright."

Winter peeped happily, getting to his feet and offering Hex his hand.

"Come, it's not far. We will play and eat pizza," he decided.

Hex was going to get fat, he just knew it. He couldn't help it, though.

And then an idea struck.

"We should get some lager if we're going to have pizza. Is there a shop near your flat?"

"Yes. There is a place that sells beer. We can go there first," Winter nodded, assuming that if Hex bought things, he would get a taste as well.

"Then let's go," he smiled, getting to his feet. He was ready to leave the ice cream to melt on the walk as ants were already coming to taste the sugar of it.

At the shop that wasn't far he looked at the small packs of beer and then selected a box with more cans. If they were going to have pizza and play games then he knew he'd be there a while. He could have more than one.

Winter eyed the booze curiously, but thought nothing of it, and soon they were heading up to the flat.

His and the Phouka's place looked much like Willy's and Fin's, though Winter had swiftly filled the space with toys and games. Especially plushes, his current favourite thing to collect.

"Do you want to play Mario Kart? It's my favourite," the pixie grinned.

"Oh yes," he replied, taking the lager to the refrigerator. "Let's order the pizza. I have me card, we can put it on it and have it be done."

He thought nothing of treating Winter to beer and pizza. He was charming and Hex found he wanted to do nice things for him.

Winter peeped happily, pulling his phone out.

"No need, I have an account," the pixie said proudly. Unaware that his 'account' was just Fin's credit card. Fin didn't like the idea of Winter charming too many pizza boys into giving him his meals for free, and had gladly offered to pay for the creature's pizza obsession.

"I will order a pie with meat, and one with cheese... Oh, and a white one, with broccoli. That counts as vegetables," the pixie assure Hex.

"Alright. That sounds good," he replied, cracking open two beers and coming to the sofa so they could play while they waited for the food.
