GP - Wild Magic 2: Chaotic Evil Boogaloo

London was a magic epicenter of sorts. Between doors to The Otherside, dormant and active portals, and an active wizarding community, it was a hub of energy, more so now than it had been for quite some time. The city was experiencing a magical renaissance of sorts- Which sounded lovely and made it a prime place to be for those exploring and studying magical energies, but wasn't so wonderful for London's more 'normal' sorts.

Magic didn't care if you were a dark lord or a banker, if it liked you, it liked you- And it was impossible to guess who it would like.

Today magic energy was at an all time high. Another blip in the usually somewhat steady stream of power that flowed through the streets. As a result, odd things were afoot- From mischievous inconveniences, to darker disruptions. Unlike the portals, these bothers were a touch more subtle, creeping up unseen on the unsuspecting.

Last time around the magic had seemed lighthearted and playful- And some of it still was, but... There was an intensity to some of it this time, harking back to the troubles that seemed to roll around every Halloween now. Something wicked was caught in the current, and while it wasn't out to harm everyone, it did seem keen to target a few.

(OTA. Just like the last time, the magic can affect your pup however you see fit. Unlike last time, however, some of the magic has taken a darker turn. It doesn't have to do something wicked to your pup, of course, but the option is there now. This post will be open from 7/18-7/28 or longer if needed. Tag in, tag others, and check back often.)

"I could fix that, but then you'd be cross with me," she replied, a hint of a devilish grin tugging at the corner of her mouth.

"Plese don't. I know you're joking, but please don't, Pip. ...Not me, not ever. I don't want that," Fin replied seriously.

"I'm not! I won't. I promise, Fin," she replied, reaching for him once more. "If I'm going to try to make you feel better I'll stick to more traditional ways. Like alcohol."

Fin relaxed, then offered a soft a smile. "Another drink sounds ideal. Not a cure, but certainly a start."

"Why don't we go someplace fun? Drinks and dancing? At least some good music. You can get pissed and I'll make sure you get home safe. What do you say?" Pip smiled.

"Pip," Fin said softly. "I... I know you want to help, and I'm grateful, but- Clubbing doesn't sound like fun right now."

He didn't expect her to understand how this felt, they'd always been different on an emotional level. He'd never known Pippa to be depressed, but Fin? Fin had always had episodes.

"Look, if the pub's really not doing it for you, we could go back to my flat. You can look at rug samples with me, paint colours... I'm thinking about gutting the place," he admitted.

Her eyes lit up at that.

"Really?" she replied brightly. "That sounds like tremendous fun, Fin! Let's buy a couple bottles and make plans. I'm sure you'll veto anything I like, but that's alright. It'll still be fun."

"I don't know if fun's the word, but I won't pretend I'm not excited to have a fresh start at home. I want that place to look like- I don't know, anything but what it is," Fin replied honestly.

"We can get on Pintrest!" she said brightly. Pip did love to decorate. She routinely bought new bedding, new ornaments, new rugs. Her flat was different every season.

She pulled out some money, a thick wad of notes, hundreds all. She laid one down, half under her plate. It would pay the tab and give the server a treat, too.

"Let's go. Finish your pint," she said as she tapped her app to get a car to come round.

"Oh, goodie, Pintrest," Fin said flatly, knocking back the rest of his pint and getting to his feet. "Just promise me you're not going to make me pin things. I don't even understand how that site works."

"Don't be a grouchy. I'll make a whole new board for you on my account," she promised, looping her arm in his to go out to the car.

"Oh, goodie," Fin chirped with mock enthusiasm, letting Pip take his arm. "I can hardly wait."

The car was waiting and Pippa was cheerful as she told the driver the address, but asked him to stop at a shop so they could get a bottle or two for the night. He was happy to oblige.

Fin's little dark cloud wasn't going to dampen her spirits. She'd basically gotten her way, spending the night with her brother doing something that might cheer him up. She hated to see him down, and she surely wasn't going to let Fin hide himself away.

The stop at the shop was quick and she even bought the driver a bottle, too, from the fat wad of notes she had. A hundred here, a hundred there, she spent without caring. It had all been just paper this morning.

"Home, home," she chirped as the car pulled to a stop. A hundred for the driver and then she was tugging at Fin's hand. "Let's go."

"You're a big spender today," Fin said mildly. "Lots of cases lined up?"

"No," she laughed lightly. "I met Winter's boyfriend in the park the other day while I was out looking for you. Right after you dropped off the planet. He showed me how to change rubbish into money. It's really quite easy," Pippa explained. "So now I can afford to give waitresses and drivers what they deserve, not what I can afford."

"You're not worried people will get suspicious?" Fin asked, frowning a little.

"Only if I do it all the time. For today let people think I hit big at Blackpool," she said, smiling brightly at him. "You know what? You worry just a bit too much. Let's get lost in paint chips, yeah? Let go for one night, brother."

"I don't worry too much, I worry just enough," Fin assured her. "Given all the shit I've survived thus far, I think the paranoia makes just the right amount of sense, Pip."

Pip was the same way, to be honest, but she wasn't about to agree with Fin. A little paranoia was fine, but coupled with depression and heartbreak...that was too much for one person to bear.

In the flat she walked away from him without answering to his statement.

"I'll get glasses," she said. "You get me the samples you have so far."

Fin wandered off to what used to be the spare room, and returned with the binders and samples he'd gotten. There were quite a few, along with some magazines he'd grabbed. Nearly all of it was old fashioned and warm. Rich leathers, dark woods.

"It's so sterile in here," he said as he dumped them on the coffee table. "I used to like it, it was calming- It was like nowhere I'd ever lived. ...Now I can't stand it."

Pip had poured two glasses and carried them in.

"You're not wrong. I hate it here," she said plainly. "It's not you. It's a place you live, but it's not a home."

"I suppose it was just easier to keep it neutral," he shrugged.

"To keep peace with him?" Pippa asked.

"No, no it was more- I don't think either of us wanted to lay claim to it. It wasn't mine, wasn't his, and so it was never ours," Fin explained.

"Make it yours, then," she nodded thoughtfully. "Which ones do you like so far? What's your idea for the place?"
