harrowgate: by unopened (sparkle)
[personal profile] harrowgate
The days grew shorter and night fell earlier, darkness blanketing the city as autumn clung to the air, refusing to yet give way to winter. Every year, it seemed, Felix forgot that daylight fled earlier, ignoring calendar and clock in favor of his study and his work.

That evening, he had been comfortably ensconced with books and his tablet for hours in the Mirador library, forgetting all about the time. When he finally did emerge, the sky was dark and the street lamps had already come alight. Sighing to himself, Felix recalled that he'd canceled the car service this evening. Well, the walk home wasn't far, and he could do with the cool night air to pull his thoughts from his research and make him more amenable company for Shannon at home.

He took a route through a nearby city park, hands in the pocket of his long, dark green overcoat, enjoying the night stroll more than he thought he would when he'd left work. Then, all at once, the lamps lighting the park paths sputtered and died. Trees and bushes blocked much of the city's ambient light, plunging the park into near total darkness.

Without a second thought, Felix stopped cold, and half a dozen palm-sized lights sprang to life around his face and shoulders. They were a pale green shade, and shaped like chrysanthemum flowers, casting his features in a weird and not entirely attractive light. It was a near instinctive wizard's reaction, summoning those witchlights, and only a moment afterward did Felix realize that he could be seen.

((OOC: All tags welcome! Magic and mythic PCs especially! Feel free to suggest a reason for the sudden power outage too. Maybe a bit of adventure?))
