"Kendal seems pleased." Em had never tried to make a living on her art before, not with a gallery showing her work anyway. So she felt like Kendal was probably a better judge of how things were going than she was.

"The show went well, and I've picked up a few commissions since which has been good. And it still leaves me enough time for fortune-telling." Painting was something she did, but fortune-telling was who she was, even if some people believed she was, or could be, more.
