Em let him help her up, and kept his hand in hers after. She didn't want to get triggered by something they passed, sending her into her visions again. Midnight had been allusion, not a specific time, but it hit her that she hadn't seen a working clock anywhere, to know how much time could be passing.

One corridor led to another, and while they had to run a few times, they managed to avoid the worst the house tried to throw at them. Then the hall ended in a flight of stairs leading up, the direction they'd come from filling with darkness behind them.
