Date: 2016-01-05 07:22 pm (UTC)"I can only imagine," Hannibal replied, frowning, disgusted by the thought. "Did he not know the consequences of this... transition? As I understood, he was the one introducing you to the possibility."

Date: 2016-01-05 07:29 pm (UTC)"Do you subscribe to the school of thought which posits that all of our desires are cemented in childhood? Whether that be a play of power, or a preference for youth and delicacy long past our own youthful days?"

Date: 2016-01-05 08:05 pm (UTC)That was an insult to his relation with Alcuin, surely, but one not unexpected and certainly not one Hannibal was going to react to. Though it did nothing to prevent Felix from seeming like a youngster throwing a tantrum.
"Not at all," he replied. "But past experiences can change and distort the way we perceive ourselves, the way we act and believe we should act. Especially when the past has traumatized." Which Hannibal knew it had, and Felix knew he knew. "And these perceptions are always fully justifiable by the person in question. Truth will always bend to a new reality. At times it will seem cemented. It never is."

Date: 2016-01-05 08:07 pm (UTC)"Hard to believe there is no more cost," Hannibal admitted. "I do not mean to ruin the mood; it just seems logical. You are static, neither dead nor alive. The psychological impact alone is staggering."

Date: 2016-01-07 05:19 am (UTC)Hannibal had not meant the word in a sexual context, simply in a context of a young man enjoying a wild party, and unlikely to be tamed into moderation. "I very much hope that not everything you enjoy involves sex, as I get the distinct impression this conversation keeps dwelling into. What you enjoy in the bedroom is only a part of you, and cause and consequence when it comes to sex are never as straightforward as some of my colleagues seem to believe." If anything, Felix was proof of that.

Date: 2016-01-07 03:14 pm (UTC)"You were blind, Finlay," Hannibal reminded the young man. "Not dead, nor dying. Or were you?"

Date: 2016-01-07 03:24 pm (UTC)"I felt like I was dying inside. I was so nervous Hannibal. I had good days, and good things did happen, but- I feared my attacker, long after he was gone. I replayed my attack over and over in my head. That's not living. Perhaps one day that would have stopped- I met so many people who were far worse off than me, living amazing lives- I hoped I would be like them eventually. ...But this? To have my eyes back, to feel like I'm in control again? Oh, there aren't words for how good it feels."
Even if the fear of being something terrible sometimes crept up on him now and then... Even if he did wonder sometimes just what the price for this life, or lack of, truly cost...
He pushed his hair back from his face, and smiled brightly again, pushing those fears aside in favour of enjoying himself.
"Let's not spoil the night dwelling on the past, hmm?" he said. "It's Christmas after all. We should be drinking and making merry."

Date: 2016-01-07 06:09 pm (UTC)However, Felix was terrible at recognizing this unconscious motivation. All he knew was that Hannibal's comments made him angry. Not insulted, not offended, but tempted like a siren toward that black oblivion of his temper which absolved him of all guilt. His response was as cool and smooth as carved ice. "My dear doctor, while your analysis of my id is utterly enthralling, I suspect this session is about to cost me if it continues any further."

Date: 2016-01-07 07:28 pm (UTC)"It's not a session, it's a reminder. Sex is only a part of any of us," Hannibal replied.

Date: 2016-01-08 10:53 am (UTC)Hannibal gave him the smile he obviously wished to see, but did not resist a final comment. "I just wish you had found someone to talk to. And I hope, that if you should need it now, you will find it still. In the mean time, perhaps you can suggest something from the buffet?"
