The Queen's official birthday celebrations might wait for the better, brighter weather of June, instead of the actual date just passed, but there was no lack of things to do in London this week, even if it was cooler and damper than the week before. St. George's day festivities were scattered throughout the city, competing with celebrations of the four hundredth anniversary of Shakespeare's death. Getting around the city could be even more difficult than usual on Sunday, with multiple streets closed off for the London marathon.

There were exhibits - everything from graphic design to a survey of Sicilian history to the influence of underwear. And the same level of diversity could be found whether you were in the mood for music, theatre, good food, or late night fun. There was something for everyone, and no matter your plans - or lack of plans - you never quite knew what you were going to find, or who might find you.

Alcuin smiled at him and sat down beside him, crossing his legs and looking out at the stage. "Also no one can complain that I'm not properly attired," he pointed out. "I could be stark naked up here and no one would know."

Eric gave him an amused look, eyebrows raised. "I would know."

Alcuin laughed, though it was a touch self conscious. "That is true. I do hope you'd notice, if that were the case."

"It would be hard not to." Eric said so easily, conversationally, and if there was the tiniest pause after the word 'hard', it wasn't long enough to seem like it might have been on purpose.

And of course, the pause was there enough for Alcuin to notice, but not enough for him to know if it had been intentional. Damnit.

Suddenly there was something he very much wanted to ask Eric about his kind of vampires. Could he have pheremones or something? Something that was making Alcuin be so attracted to him that he was having those dreams?

But he didn't want to ask right now; it would be painfully obvious why he was asking, he thought. He'd have to slip it into a set of other questions.

"Perhaps next time," he quipped instead, his tone light enough as to make the line between silliness and flirtatiousness not quite clear either.

Eric's only response to that was a non-committal purse of his lips, but he did not hide his amusement. Still, he moved on. "Have you seen this opera before?"

"I have not," Alcuin admitted, looking pleased. "So the invitation was very welcome, aside from just the pleasure of your company. I enjoy the opera."

"They say it isn't a classic take on it," Eric told him. "But I didn't ask how." He wanted to discover it for himself.

"Mmmm perhaps we are about to find out," Alcuin said, smiling at Eric as the lights started to dim.

It wasn't a classic take at all, and Eric enjoyed it, he had decided, by the time of the intermission. "What did you think?" he asked Alcuin, stretching his legs without getting to his feet just yet.

"It's very feminist for an opera, isn't it?" Alcuin said, turning to look at him. "And kind of sexy. I like it."

"Her agency is certainly not the classic take on it," Eric agreed.
