He wasn't terribly musical, if he was honest. He could sing, and he'd written lyrics for Will in the past, but when it came to instruments, he knew little. His piano was poor, his attempts at drumming when he was younger had been a failure, but he could play a bit on the guitar. It was a skill he was attempting to improve as he sat beneath a tree in the park, a cigarette dangling from his lips as he strummed to himself.

Dark sunglasses hid his eyes, and Keats lay nearby, keeping watch as much as he was keeping Fin company. A few stray chords settled into a familiar song, and Fin hummed a bit before removing the cigarette from his lips and starting to sing.

"The door slammed loud and rose up a cloud of dust on us. Footsteps follow, down through the hollow sound, torn up... And you will go to Mykonos, with a vision of a gentle coast, and a sun to maybe dissipate. Shadows of the mess you made..."

He fumbled a bit, swearing under his breath as he strummed a bit more, jumping ahead in the song.

"I remember how they took you down, as the winter turned the meadow brown. You go, wherever you go today..."

He made it through the rest of the verse before fumbling again and starting over, pausing to stub out his cigarette and give it a proper try this time.

This was not a song Curnen knew, and as such she didn't try for any of the words. But it didn't take her long to pick up on chords, and from there it was easy enough to hum in harmony, her voice winding around his but never trying to overpower. She could. Easily. But that wasn't the point.

Curnen flowed naturally into sitting beside Fin and tentatively reached an arm around him. She didn't entirely realize she was humming the tune to "Little Maggie" until she was already doing it. The lyrics were not entirely accurate to the situation, but the wish to erase painful history for the heartache to end, that was there.

It was the best way she could think to say that she understood, at least a little.

She neither tried to shush him, nor to make him talk, only to offer what little comfort she could.

The words came next when he did that, and Curnen gently combed her fingers through his curls as she sang, soft and low. It was the sort of tune that could easily be a lullaby, if you weren't actually paying attention to what the song was about. Like all the best lullabies seemed to be, in her experience. Her magic twined with his, and she made a little sign with her free hand, turning away any prying eyes.

"I don't know about stop," Curnen told him honestly. "But less... yes."

"I wish I could tell you better about the hurt," Curnen murmured, her voice barely more than breath. "But I'm still waiting myself. All I know is there's a way out."

Curnen paused a moment as she considered that. "You're talkin' 'bout two different things. Leaving now will kill him. Leaving if you break the bond could. He's Sidhe, he's royal, he's old. Aside from a very few things, he ain't gonna die unless he damn well wants to. That ain't on you."

She shook her head. "You're not responsible for his choices," Curnen repeated. "I know it's unbearable to think someone you love might get hurt 'cause of you, but that's not right. His choices ain't on you."

"Yeah, I know," Curnen murmured. "If I'd kept my mouth shut, my husband might be alive right now." She had to pause for a breath, if only to prove to herself that she could breathe. "There's days where the only thing that keeps me going is remembering that it wasn't me who killed him."

Curnen went quiet for a long moment, pondering if she could even get the words out. She could not mention Rockhouse's name in this context. Nor could she say that the one who had been hurting her was her own father. But...

"He was hurting me," she said, whisper quiet, unable to say that word for what Rockhouse had done to her. "My husband knew something was wrong, but I couldn't tell him. And when I finally did..." she shrugged. "Brushy didn't stand a chance. He wasn't strong enough."

Curnen nodded, hastily shoving the whole mess back into the drawer it had been in. "I didn't kill Brushy. You wouldn't be killing Will. Hard as it is not to think of it that way."

"Few people are," Curnen agreed, though hell if anyone could think of a nice thing Rockhouse had ever done. Her father was straight up a fucking monster. "And I know he ain't. We sang together for a bit when I met him."

"He looked like he needed it?" Curnen said, uncertainly enough that it lifted into a question. "Fading is terrifying."
