Mini GP

It was that time of the year, a time that used to fill Valentine with joy. Christmas was so wonderful usually, after all, but not so much this year. He simply wasn't in the holiday spirit. However, he'd planned this charity event months ago, and there was no cancelling it now. 

It wasn't as flash as ones he'd held in prior years, his museum open to the public with collection buckets all over for people to give what they could to ensure a better holiday for those in need. Music filled the space, and there were performers all throughout the space. Yes, he'd had to up security for the evening to keep his many occult related items safe, but- Well, it was worth it, he supposed. If nothing else, it seemed to be enough to stop his mother from worrying so much about him for a bit.

All were welcome and admission was free. The bar was reasonably priced, and there were a few free nibbles donated by a local restaurant. All and all, not a bad night for the bored and the generously inclined.

"Well, then, would you like to have a look around together?" Akeem offered. If Fin's magic were in fact behaving, he assumed that 'look' was not such a wrong word to use.

"Sure," Fin smiled, looking around for House, but not spotting him. "I need to look around and find my date again anyway. I seem to have misplaced him somewhere between here and the bar," he admitted with an amused chuckle.

"Oh, I wouldn't want to take you away from him," Akeem immediately stated.

"I'm sure he'll not mind being free of me for a moment, he's probably talking to someone he knows," Fin replied, shrugging one shoulder. "He's a doctor, actually- An American. Terribly clever. He's a, um... Bugger, what's the word? Diagnostic... Oh, diagnostician. That's it. Figures out what's wrong with people."

Well, that was a relief. Fin was here with Greg. "Greg House?" he checked, just in case Fin was seeing two American diagnosticians. Or had ditched Greg for another. "I didn't know he was here tonight."

"Yes, Greg! You know him? What a small world, hmm?” Fin beamed. "I don't think he intended to come, but I insisted."

Some things never changed, like Greg's dates having to drag him to such events. That put an amused smile on Akeem's lips. "So chances are he is at the bar."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Seems likely," Fin admitted with a smile. "Though perhaps he's enjoying the exhibits? So many oddities and unexplained things hanging about, sure'y he's itching to solve or debunk them all."

Akeem paused, watching Fin for a beat before asking, before he could think better of it, "Does he know? That you're Fae."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"He's aware," Fin nodded. "That's not the sort of thing I'm keen to hide from the people I'm intimate with."

"Well," Akeem sighed at the news. That was his cue to stop worrying that Greg might notice something was off with him, and press Akeem into a lie. If he believed in the Fae, a werewolf was not much more to ask of him. "That's good to know. Thank you."

"Why the thanks?" Fin asked with a curious smile.

"You didn't have to answer that question, did you," Akeem answered with a grateful smile.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"No, I suppose not. ...I'm not a very secretive person though, Akeem. It's just not n my nature," Fin admitted.

"It won't stop me feeling grateful," Akeem assured him with an amused, affectionate smile.

Fin's own smile was warm, and he nodded a little in agreement.

"Then you're welcome," he said, before tilting his head slightly and offering a curious glance. "How do you know Greg?"

"We're childhood friends, actually," Akeem answered. "We reconnected a few years ago. He was there for me when my wife died. Cancer." It was not that he did not miss Laura, to this day, and the life they would have had since her death. But he was more than used to talking about it.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"I'm sorry," Fin said gently, "I didn't know about your wife. That's awful, Akeem."

Reaching over, he gave the other man's arm a soft squeeze.

"It must be good though, having him here in London. Fortunate that you'd both wind up in the same city. Kismet, even," he smiled.

"Well, London is my home," Akeem stated. "I'd say it's kismet that he wound up here, but it seems to have been a choice on his part." Helped along by the NHS's worrying disregard for American decisions on medical licenses, but in this case, it had turned out for the best. Greg was a good doctor, if a very original individual. "Either way, I'm thankful."

He paused, then added, "He doesn't know what I am. Yet. I'd - appreciate it if you didn't mention it until I've broken the news to him."

"I'm not in the business of sharing others secrets," Fin replied simply.

[leloupnoir]

"Then I will thank you - again," Akeem told Fin with a small smile.

[prince_of_nymphs]

Fin smiled a little and shrugged a bit. "No worries, mate. ...Do you think you'll ever tell him though?" he asked curiously.

[leloupnoir]

"Oh, of course," Akeem answered with a nod. "If he already knows about the supernatural, there's no reason not to."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"You just didn't want to be the one to tell him about the supernatural?" Fin asked.

"To this day, I still don't know if I consider knowing about the supernatural a gift, or a curse," Akeem replied. "I tend not to tell people who don't already know, if I can get away with it."
