Be Mine - Valentine's Day 2017

Lucky in love or not, London was a lovely place to find yourself on Valentine's Day. From romantic walks through various parks, to intimate dinners or shared deserts in the many restaurants and cafe's- There was something for everyone, because if wandering or dining wasn't for you, well, there were plenty of organised events to attend.

London couldn't claim to be the city of love, but it was certainly a city of possibilities.

"When he loves, he loves to the depths of his being." Godric was lucky enough to feel that love. He had hope Eric could be swayed to his perspective in time, but it wasn't the sort of thing he could command of his progeny.

"But for that reason, he is also guarded, showing it to very few. He does not, yet, feel the love for them that I do," Godric let his gaze take in the mortals around them to suggest what he meant. "In part because he learned so long ago to protect himself from loss, and that sharing himself too freely could be a weakness."

Anael nodded in understanding. "But at least he lets himself love."

He could not help but think of Robin, who had very much the same reasoning, but took it to extremes in a way that could not but sadden the angel.

Godric remembered realizing how lonely Eric had been here, and how the shadows of that loneliness in his eyes was fading with Godric's presence. It made thinking of leaving more difficult, when it was already bad enough Godric avoided thinking of it more than he should.

"At least there is that. And yet I'd protect him from the hurt and separation if I could."

"I would save the ones I love from all heartache, too, if I could," Anael confirmed, and paused. "But I'm not sure how much good that would do them." Love was worth more for the pain.

"Tell me about them? The loves that are special to you." Godric wanted to know what sort of people Anael held close, when he seemed to love so easily. And it felt right to ask, after telling him about Eric.

More special than the others; everyone Anael loved, more than Loved, was special in their own way. But Coby sprang first to mind, and he smiled. "There is one I keep meeting over centuries. Ever different, and ever lovable. His current incarnation warms me through and through, for the love and understanding we share."

Godric smiled too, seeing those hints of how the other made Anael feel. "Is it difficult, that he is always changing? Or is it simply another aspect you love?" It was almost hard for Godric to imagine.

"Change is not something to which my kind are much accustomed. To our detriment." Yet the constancy of his bond with Eric, and with Nora, was a comfort, and he wondered how they would react to his changes as they saw more of them.

"Some of the changes are more difficult than others," Anael admitted. "But I always love them, and that is a gift in itself." Even if Shamsiel did not always return his love.

"He is... not like you?" The way Anael spoke of incarnations that changed suggested his lover was not an angel, and obviously not a vampire, but they were hardly the only long-living beings. Godric wasn't sure what he might be, though.

"I don't think there's anyone else like him," Anael answered honestly. Maybe Prometheus came close, but he was not even certain.

People always felt that way about the ones they loved, but Godric got the impression it was more literal in this case. "And you are not much like most of your kind – seeing the beauty of this world and its people, willing to talk or even be friends with those like me, love that carries on through lifetimes."

"I am what I was made to be," Anael answered with a small smile, sadder than it would have been before his current ordeal. "Love is at the core of everything, for me."

While Godric was made for death, blood at the core. He mirrored Anael's sad smile. "I envy you that."

"You have made yourself," Anael remarked. "Isn't there some reward in that?"

[vampireevolved]

"Remade perhaps, into something you – and if I am more lucky than I deserve, your god – do not wish to smite on sight. But I spent too many centuries as the creature another made me. That I cannot change." Even now, even changed, he could never be free of the death and violence.

"No one can change their past," Anael replied, wanting to reach out but unsure how welcome it would be. He was an angel, and Godric a vampire, if an open-minded, open-hearted one. "For what it's worth, I truly hope that God will welcome you with open arms."

"I hope..." Godric shook his head. "i am not sure I have it in me to hope for so much. But that you hope it is an unimaginable gift."

"Then I am glad I can bestow it upon you," Anael told him honestly. "I will pray that you find hope again, Godric." Not that God seemed to listen to his prayers, but he would not let that stop him.

"Can angels pray for themselves?" Godric wasn't sure if they could want in that way. "I would hope for your burden, whatever it is, to be eased."

"Thank you," Anael told him with a small, sad smile. "The problem is not with the prayers, but with their reception, I suppose."

No angel's god would want to hear Godric's prayers, and the gods of Godric's youth had forsaken him before he became a vampire, taking his faith with them. But it felt wrong, seeing Anael hurting so much a stranger, and a vampire, could recognize the sorrow, if not it's source. A slight bow of his head accepted Anael's answer.

"I am glad I met you tonight, Anael."

Anael smiled over at the vampire, and bowed his head in much the same manner. "And you, Godric."

"Would you like to walk together for awhile? I'd enjoy the company, and there is so much life in London tonight." Life, and love - both things Godric and Anael could appreciate above most others.

Anael smiled slightly, then nodded. "It would be my pleasure. Anywhere in particular?"

[vampireevolved]

"Wherever we feel like." On a night like tonight almost any direction could lead to something beautiful, and it was more about the companionship Anael and Godric could share than any specific destination. "Wherever feels best."
