Gathering Post - Christmas Eve Party

Merry Christmas!

You are invited to celebrate the season with Finlay Flynn and Willy Silver.

 

When: Christmas Eve (5pm – Midnight)

Where: Making the Modern World - The Science Museum

Upon entry you'll be given a ticket for one free drink. All drinks after that are 5 each. There will also be a free buffet in the dining area.

 

Dress code: Casual, but tidy please!

 

Raffle: Come wearing a festive sweater and you will automatically be entered into a raffle to win a 65 inch TV.

 

Donate: Bring three tins of canned food to be donated to the local food bank, and receive an extra drink ticket.

Look forward to: A live DJ, live music, an appearance by Santa, gift bags with deluxe swag, and the company of old and new friends!

 

(OTA! Happy holidays! If you know Fin, Willy, Phouka, or Winter, feel free to assume they gave you an invite. If not, you can say your pup got an invite through a friend of a friend, someone who knows someone, ect. It IS invite over (no gate crashing pups please, Fin's a giver and would want everyone to feel included), but the pups hosting the party are pretty active and I believe they know almost everyone in the game. And the people they don't know surely know people who do. Even if you only met them once, you got an invite somehow! This gathering post is open all week, and beyond!)

"Vodka and coke," Anael echoed in acknowledgement. When they reached the bar, he quickly got them drinks - a red wine, for him - and handed hers to her before drawing away from the counter to let other people solicit the bartenders. "Which of our hosts do you know, Sunny?" he asked curiously.

Sunny sipped her drink, tasting pure sugar and reminding herself not to be fooled by it. "Both of them, actually. But I'm friends with Fin." She didn't even really trust Willy.

"His heart is beautiful," Anael stated honestly, a small smile on his lips.

"He's very sweet," Sunny agreed. "I know he's an adult and older than me and everything, but it's hard not to feel protective."

They were all very young to Anael, so he hadn't even thought about how old either of them were exactly. It was not a thing he thought to wonder or ask about. "I feel protective of all of you," he answered, with a bit of a sheepish shrug. "I think I'm meant to."

Sunny grinned at that. "We must all seem like such babies to you." If that. Flashes in the dark, specks of fust. She couldn't imagine what she must look like to someone who had lived longer than she could possibly fit into her head.

"Not babies," Anael answered, with a warm smile and a shake of his head. "Men." It wasn't as if angels had babies, after all. "You're all... very precious. Fascinating, and unique."

"All of us?" It could have been Sunny being smart, but her tone made it a real question.

"Well, I Love all of you," Anael stated, and smiled again, small but warm, "but I do have favourites."

Sunny couldn't imagine loving everyone. She didn't even love her whole family. Not in the sense that she hated people. Mostly. Like Yaya, her paternal grandmother, who was a nice lady but she didn't particularly favor Sunny and Sunny didn't particularly favor her.

And then there was her dad, who she should love. And she couldn't.

But he started it.

"I guess that's one of the fundamental differences," she said with a lopsided little smile. "I couldn't love everyone to save my life."

"Well, it's not like I like everyone?" Anael offered with raised eyebrows, and a small smile.

"What's the difference?" she asked, genuinely curious. It was something she'd heard before, 'I love this person, but I don't like them,' but that sounded like a bunch of nonsense to her. She ragged on her brother Chukwu a lot, but ultimately they called each other regularly because they liked each other and loved each other.

"Everyone deserves love," Anael stated, working out how to explain it even as he spoke. "Down to the meanest, cruelest people. But I'd hardly enjoy spending much time with them, I should think."

Sunny didn't think she understood that at all, and she didn't pretend to either. "How can you love someone you can't stand to be around?"

Your father never wanted a daughter.

"How can you not love someone?" Anael replied, not a challenge but a statement about himself. "My - default setting is different, maybe?"

The question wasn't a challenge, but it unexpectedly cut Sunny to the quick. Caught off guard by her own reaction, she felt tears spring to her eyes. She blinked them away, tried to hide the whole thing behind a sip of her drink.

Hurting her had been the last thing on Anael's mind, and he stepped forward instinctively, laying a hand on her arm. "I'm sorry," he told her, honest sympathy in his eyes. "I did not mean for my careless words to offend you."

Sunny shook her head. "No, no, it's not you. I'm not offended. It's..." She quirked a tiny, humorless smile, realizing she was about to unload on an angel of the Lord and pulling herself back. "Well. It's not you."

"My words have caused you pain, whatever the underlying cause," Anael stated softly, leaving his hand light on her arm. "If I can help in any way..."

Sunny shook her head again and made herself smile and say as flippantly as she could, "Oh, no, my father doesn't care about me is all."

"I'm sorry to hear that," Anael told her honestly, aching for and with her. At least he knew that God Loved him, for all that They were still angry with him. Or at least, he imagined that They were, for him to still be denied Their presence.

Sunny shrugged and finished off her drink. "It's not new. I'm used to it." Only that had probably come out with more bitterness than she'd intended.

"It still hurts you," Anael stated, then frowned, and shook his head. "Forgive me. I should not prod. Tonight is a night for the love we have got."

Sunny neither affirmed or denied it, looking into her empty glass before asking softly, "Am I horrible if I hate him back?"

"You're not horrible at all, Sunny," Anael told her on the same tone, warm and intimate. He was not sure that she would want to hear that hate did not exist without love, or that she would see it for the comfort it was.
