Gathering Post - Christmas Eve Party

Merry Christmas!

You are invited to celebrate the season with Finlay Flynn and Willy Silver.

 

When: Christmas Eve (5pm – Midnight)

Where: Making the Modern World - The Science Museum

Upon entry you'll be given a ticket for one free drink. All drinks after that are 5 each. There will also be a free buffet in the dining area.

 

Dress code: Casual, but tidy please!

 

Raffle: Come wearing a festive sweater and you will automatically be entered into a raffle to win a 65 inch TV.

 

Donate: Bring three tins of canned food to be donated to the local food bank, and receive an extra drink ticket.

Look forward to: A live DJ, live music, an appearance by Santa, gift bags with deluxe swag, and the company of old and new friends!

 

(OTA! Happy holidays! If you know Fin, Willy, Phouka, or Winter, feel free to assume they gave you an invite. If not, you can say your pup got an invite through a friend of a friend, someone who knows someone, ect. It IS invite over (no gate crashing pups please, Fin's a giver and would want everyone to feel included), but the pups hosting the party are pretty active and I believe they know almost everyone in the game. And the people they don't know surely know people who do. Even if you only met them once, you got an invite somehow! This gathering post is open all week, and beyond!)

"Elves? No idea." Em know how Dutch felt, though, with all the non-humans she'd met recently, and at least Em was used to mutants, who were different in their own ways. "But there are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

"No, no, if we're talking elves, don't you have to go with Oberon and Titania?" Dutch pointed out, and smiled. "Come on. I need a top up, and you need a drink."

"Who says we're only talking about elves?" Em grinned back slyly. "Besides, I'm not sure invoking the Fair Folk is wise. Drinks, on the other hand, a very wise decision."

"Always," Dutch agreed with a grin, and snatched her hand to draw her in the direction of the bar. "And they've got an amazing-looking buffet. I was waiting for you to eat."

Em gave Dutch's hand a light squeeze as they started through the gallery toward the bar. "I'm rarely going to turn down free food, or better company. Now I feel even worse for being late."

"Don't, it gave me time to check out some of this stuff, and run into a couple of friends I didn't expect to see here," Dutch replied. She couldn't believe she'd just described Q as a friend, but honestly, it was a lot easier than trying to come up with an apt description.

"I could count the number of people I expected to know here on one hand, and about half of them I don't know well at all." She'd seen several more familiar faces than that, but it was still a lot of people she didn't know. "I'm glad you got a chance catch up."

"I didn't expect to know much of anyone at all, apart from Hex, Jag, and you," Dutch replied with a smirk. "I guess it's one of those parties."

Em wondered if Hex was the one with the youtube channel - it wasn't a common name - but she wasn't sure this was the time or place to ask. "You. Jag and Val. And I've met Winter, but I wouldn't say I know him. But I guess it is a small world, because there are several people I know."

"Exactly," Dutch grinned. "One of those parties. What are you having?" she asked as they reached the bar.

"Champagne's good." It was what Dutch was drinking, and it was a party. Christmas spirit and all that. Em just wasn't going to think about a pilfered bottle shared on a rooftop.

"Two glasses of champagne, please," Dutch ordered, then finished hers and pulled out a tenner.

"Thanks," Em said once they had their drinks. "Time to check out the buffet?"

Dutch clinked her glass against Emma's and took a sip, then hooked her free hand in the crook of her elbow. "Let's. It looks amazing."

The food had been as amazing as it looked. Em wasn't one for dancing, and the music wasn't what would have Dutch wanting to be out there. So they were exploring some of the exhibits and enjoying hanging out together instead, when Em remembered, "Oh. I meant to tell you. I'm going out of town for a few days."

"Are you?" Dutch tore her gaze away from Stephenson's Rocket to look at Em. "Where to?" Not that Em owed her anything, but she was curious, and she gave a shit.

"Jag's going back to the circus for a visit," and some time around people who got him, Em thought but didn't add. "It's kind of a Roma thing."

So nothing like when she went to the circus in Paris with Jamie, although at least this time she knew well enough to let Dutch know ahead of time, where she hadn't with Pyro.

"Cool," Dutch nodded, and now she was curious. "What's a Roma Christmas like?" She was guessing there were some differences, but maybe she'd be surprised.

"Depends on the Roma." Religion and local culture determined a lot of Roma celebrations, and Christmas could be highly dependent on both. "But family's at the heart of it. And forgiveness." Because their strength came from community.

"I've obviously skipped fasting today, but some do. Then Christmas day is for feasting and drinking, music and dancing."

"Sounds lively," Dutch grinned at her.

"It's not that different from what we're doing tonight," Em offered, looking around the museum space. "In broad terms. It's only the details that make it seem so."

[hardertohide]

"Please tell me the music's better," Dutch stated, warm and wry all at once. Christmas songs were not her thing, at all.

"To me... probably," Em said, thinking about it. "But I don't know if you'd agree. I'm a) pretty clueless about music, and b) kind of eclectic in what I do like."

"Guess you'll have to make me listen to some things, so we figure it out," Dutch answered with a smile. "Oh, before I forget - I ran into a friend earlier, here - he wants to meet you."

"Okay," Em said, the slight hesitation due to her usual shyness rather than not wanting to meet Dutch's friend. "A good friend?" she asked, in place of a more direct tell me about him.
