The Queen's official birthday celebrations might wait for the better, brighter weather of June, instead of the actual date just passed, but there was no lack of things to do in London this week, even if it was cooler and damper than the week before. St. George's day festivities were scattered throughout the city, competing with celebrations of the four hundredth anniversary of Shakespeare's death. Getting around the city could be even more difficult than usual on Sunday, with multiple streets closed off for the London marathon.

There were exhibits - everything from graphic design to a survey of Sicilian history to the influence of underwear. And the same level of diversity could be found whether you were in the mood for music, theatre, good food, or late night fun. There was something for everyone, and no matter your plans - or lack of plans - you never quite knew what you were going to find, or who might find you.

"I am pixie," Winter replied, all sweetness as he spoke. "Fae are my kin though."

"Pixie," Eric echoed curiously. "I thought they were tiny creatures." Not that this one was very big, but he was human-sized.

"I make myself large," Winter replied, puffing up slightly with pride. "I'm very clever," he assured the vampire.

"With... magic?" Eric inquired. He knew so little about pixies.

[winter_wisp]

"A potion," Winter peeped, "but I can control it with magic. I can shrink back down when I please."

[thenorthman]

"What else can you do with your magic?" Eric asked, conversational but clearly interested. There was no use hiding it.

[winter_wisp]

"Many things," Winter replied, puffing up proudly again. "I can make ice, I can grow flowers... All sorts."

[thenorthman]

"Make ice," Eric echoed, wondering whether Winter might not give him a small demonstration.

Looking just a bit smug, Winter nodded, checking to make sure they were definitely alone, definitely, and then used his magic to create a small ice sculpture in his palm. A small horse that looked fit for a carousel, that trotted in a little circle, then slowly evaporated.

"It can be temperamental though," he admitted. "My magic was stunted when I was young, and it's only now developing properly. ...And sometimes the potion effects it too."

It certainly felt stronger now when he was very big.

"Temperamental magic," Eric stated. "That sounds dangerous."

"I'm not dangerous, I'm good," Winter insisted, looking a bit upset by the idea that he could be anything but a good pixie.

"And no good person is ever dangerous?" Eric challenged quietly.

[winter_wisp]

"Not me," Winter insisted stubbornly. "I am always good. I'm am sweetness."

[thenorthman]

"All right," Eric agreed. "I'll keep that in mind." He didn't believe a word of it, but he was a very good actor.

The lights started to go down, and Winter looked up at them, eyeing them curiously before turning his gaze to the stage.

Eric settled in to watch the opera, most of his focus on it, rather than on the distracting smell of the (dangerous) pixie, as it unfolded. Until the intermission, turning to Winter as the lights came back on. "No mad song yet, but it will come."

Winter was unusually still and quiet watching with rapt attention. When the show paused for intermission, he made a sad sound, then nodded.

"May we go outside and get some air?" he asked. "This building is old and stuffy, and my eyes itch."

They actually looked a bit puffy, as though the pixie had wept- But if he had, Winter wasn't about to admit to it.

Eric watched him for a second, then stood, happy to unfold long legs. "Come on."

Winter wandered along at his side, petite enough that he held lightly onto Eric's sleeve to make sure he wasn't lost in the crowds.

The good thing about being with Eric was that most people seemed to naturally move out of his way, making it easier for Winter to keep up. Eric had no intention to let him get lost, anyway. He smelled much too good. They took a few steps outside, and he let the pixie have a few moments to himself before asking, "Feeling better?"

Winter nodded, smiling brightly.

"Yes, much, thank you," he nodded, taking off his fake glasses and tucking them into his pocket. "It is a beautiful opera so far, I'm glad I came."

"Are you ready for the truly sad bits?" Eric checked with raised eyebrows.

[winter_wisp]

"Maybe after I have another drink," Winter suggested, looking hopeful, though he was in no rush to get back inside. He was enjoying the cool air quite a bit.

"Would that be wise?" Eric inquired, watching the pixie with amusement.

[winter_wisp]

"No," Winter replied with a cheeky little grin.
