Be Mine - Valentine's Day 2017

Lucky in love or not, London was a lovely place to find yourself on Valentine's Day. From romantic walks through various parks, to intimate dinners or shared deserts in the many restaurants and cafe's- There was something for everyone, because if wandering or dining wasn't for you, well, there were plenty of organised events to attend.

London couldn't claim to be the city of love, but it was certainly a city of possibilities.

Felix did try not to laugh, but he had to bite on his lower lip to keep from doing so. It would only encourage Sunny, and she had more than enough encouragement to tease him already. "You may have accurately discerned my very greatest weakness. Well, greatest second only to Shannon himself, of course. And he is a terrible snob, but honestly, money means almost nothing to him. It's far too easy for him to get."

Sunny still smirked a little at the restrained laugh, knowing she'd landed the mark despite Felix's attempt to keep his dignity. "Well, then. I guess we can get more creative than that. You said he likes red? Hm... carnations. Daisies. Snapdragons..."

"I only really want..." Felix began, and then he paused, appearing to struggle with what he really did want. It seemed so ridiculous to say it out loud. "I want to make him smile," he finally stated, lifting his chin as if to dare Sunny to tease him for that.

Sunny did adore teasing Felix, but it was because he was pompous, posturing, and a peacock. But he wasn't always. And she could and did respect that. "Daisies," she answered straight. "I've never seen someone not smile at daisies. And red ones are gorgeous."

"I thought they were all white and yellow," Felix admitted, but he found the proper sign labeling the flowers, and paused to admire the wide blossoms and crimson petals. "You really think he'll like them? Would you?"

Not that Sunny and Shannon were in any way similar. It was just that, for once in his life, Felix felt decidedly uncertain.

Sunny thought about how best to answer that other than a simple 'yes.' "I would. I think they're a really nice combination of boldness because of the color and sweetness because of the flower."

That was endorsement enough for Felix. He smiled for her, approving, the sort of smile that teased at the corners of his eyes where he might, one day, actually develop laugh lines if he wasn't careful. "Red daisies it is, then. If it clashes with the outfit he's chosen, I'm sure to hear about it. But, really, who wants neutral Valentine's Day flowers?" Felix asked rhetorically, and began to select a number of the red daisies with a critical eye.

It was a more real smile than some of the ones he'd given her, she noticed. Not meant to dazzle, but not entirely out of the realm of performing either. Sunny quirked a smile in return. "I dunno. I could be talked into an all-white bouquet if the right amount of variety had gone into the selected flowers, but it's still a bit... wedding-y."

For an instant, Felix's expression dissolved into abject horror. It was only a heartbeat, and then the smile snapped back into place. "No. Yes. I mean, let's try to avoid that, shall we," he said, swiftly and decisively.

Sunny clapped her hands over her mouth in a vain attempt to stifle the laugh that burst out at that face. "Sha, is that idea so horrifying?" But she hadn't finished laughing, and after the question was out she dissolved into giggling again.

Felix had recovered himself enough to only lift his brows at Sunny's hilarity, and went on selecting flowers. Only he couldn't look at her too long, or he might start, too. "Can you really imagine me getting married? I look awful in white."

I stop fully registering as human when I wear white. "There's a lot of people in this world I can't picture as married who are or get married."

She slipped closer into his space, her eyes bright with amusement and teasing. "You know, Felix, radical concept as this is, laughter is not antithetical to dignity."

Now it was a contest of wills, which Sunny knew very well. "I laugh when something is funny," Felix said, archly.

Then he presented the finished bouquet for her inspection.

"I see you trying not to," Sunny answered, though she left it there not wanting to push too hard. But the gesture of showing the flowers to her was reassurance that despite his tone he wasn't upset with her.

She smiled, this one a real smile rather than a teasing one. She really didn't want to make Felix think she was laughing at him for wanting to do something nice for his lover. "Bright, bold, passionate color, and a little bit sweet. I think it does very well for the occasion."

"I'll give you half the credit if he likes it, and the majority of the blame if he doesn't," Felix promised. Then his manner softened, and he gave in to a small, crooked smile. "And one hundred percent of my thanks, regardless."

That one was most assuredly a real smile, and she may have stood a little straighter for it, though she didn't notice this. "As I wouldn't be surprised if Shannon has forgotten all about me and I won't be there anyway, I shall take any blame without flinching," Sunny assured him.

Felix bent in a half-bow of acknowledgement. Then, curiously, he asked, "Do you have any plans for the day? Or evening?"

While she should have been expecting a question like that, it still brought a faint blush to Sunny's face and she ducked her head a little. "I have a date tonight, actually."

"Anyone I know?" Felix asked, though he suspected he knew very well, if things had progressed since the Christmas season.

Sunny's deepening blush was probably more answer than her petulantly coy, "You do."

Felix looked deeply pleased, and an absolutely insufferable comment or two lingered on the edges of his mouth. By some miracle, he managed to control himself enough not to speak them aloud. What he did say, as graciously as she deserved for her kindness to him (eventually), was, "I'm glad."

The silence was almost worse than actual teasing since Sunny could just imagine what he wasn't saying and make it even worse and there was no way he didn't know that. Still, bright in the face, she smirked at him. "Oh, Felix, you held your tongue. Sweetness or self preservation?"

"The spirit of the day?" Felix suggested, with an effervescent swirl of his hand. Then, the fluttery fingers drifted back down. "No, the latter. I'd like to make it to dinner with Shannon with all the skin still on my back."

Felix was not a tactile person and Sunny knew this. Normally that was a boundary she didn't press at all, but she felt that he'd earned this and she flicked his forehead. She didn't do it very hard, and she did it in his hair to cushion the tiny blow, but she wanted to be very clear that he was still a brat. "You're awful," she said, but affectionately.

Felix looked utterly bewildered at this gesture. As coy and teasing as he could be, it was rare that anyone treated him playfully, and even more rare when play was affectionate. He was used to desire, competition, and even a little bit of friendship these days, but affection still left him baffled.

He softened, after a second, into a quizzical but accepting little smile. "So I'm told." Then, lest this become too warm-and-fuzzy between them, Felix added, "I should pay them for these and get home, or I'll be late to dinner."
