Be Mine - Valentine's Day 2017

Lucky in love or not, London was a lovely place to find yourself on Valentine's Day. From romantic walks through various parks, to intimate dinners or shared deserts in the many restaurants and cafe's- There was something for everyone, because if wandering or dining wasn't for you, well, there were plenty of organised events to attend.

London couldn't claim to be the city of love, but it was certainly a city of possibilities.

"Sometimes we all need the reminder, I think." Godric continued to watch people around them, while remaining aware of the one he was talking to. "That people are so capable of love, and how powerful it can be. Even when it's not roses and chocolates and frilly hearts." Humans really were amazing. It had taken Godric far too long to see it.

"Sometimes, we all do," Anael echoed quietly, with a small, genuine smile for the vampire. Even he did, clearly, and this had been the most perfect thing to point out. "Thank you," he added, not bothering to hide that fact, much happier to express his gratitude. "My name is Anael."

If the vampire had not felt so very loving, Anael might have been wary of him striking up a conversation with him. But no one so loving could be in league with those who had bound him.

"I am Godric."

Considering Anael a moment, surprised but pleased by the reaction his words had on who who'd seemed so troubled. "You know what I am," was as more statement than question. "Do you know I wish no harm here?"

"You don't feel like you do," Anael replied, holding the vampire's gaze easily, "but I'm glad to hear it. Do you know what I am?" It was rare for vampires to talk to him.

"Something I've never met before, and called Anael – I have my guesses, but as I said, I've never met or spoken with your kind. Perhaps I wasn't ready to, before now." If Godric was right, and Anael was an angel, it might have gone very badly for the vampire he was before his change of heart. Perhaps this was a sign.

Anael tilted his head slightly, patiently curious. "But you are now?"

Godric considered the question seriously, feeling no need to rush for an answer. "I don't know," he decided. "I have changed, but whether I am or could be ready to meet someone like you." Godric offered a wry smile. "It raises questions I'm not sure I want answered."

Anael's smile was everything but wry. "I won't give you any answers you don't want." He wasn't even certain that he had every answer the vampire might be thinking of.

If Anael was what Godric believed him to be, then there were such things as angels. And if there were angels, then a god of some kind must also exist. What then would such a god think of a creature like Godric and all he had done?

"Or any you don't want to answer, I hope. I would understand that as well. Only I noticed you seem troubled."

"And then you reminded me to focus on the love," Anael replied, a gentle evasion. "I'd rather keep doing just that, at least for a little while."

Accepting the choice with a tip of his head, Godric joined him in appreciating the signs of love around them. He had said Anael needn't answer anything he didn't want to, and his observation was an offer if the angel wanted to talk, with no expectations either way. After a moment, "It's what brought me to London. Love. For someone I hadn't seen in far too long." He nodded toward the people around them, "And for them too, in a way."

The love in question felt like one of the most beautiful and complex loves Anael had ever felt, and he looked at Godric with a small smile on his lips, clearly amazed, for a few seconds. "I'm not sure that I've ever felt quite the like from your kind."

Sorrow dimmed Godric's eyes, but there was wonder too that the angel could feel his love and be happy for it. "We live so long we are slow to change, and most do not wish to. When we look at them and see only prey, it is difficult not to believe we are superior. I hope in time more will see mortals as I've come to see them."

"You are not as alone as you think," Anael assured him. When it came to his love for mortals, anyway. When it came to his love for the one he had come to see... Anael could only hope that he was not. "I know of at least one other vampire in the city who values mortals as much as vampires, if not more."

Sadly, not Eric, but Godric believed he needed to come around to Godric's belief in his own time, with Godric's example as guide, rather than attempting to change him directly. But he was glad to hear he was not the only one who felt so. "That is good news indeed. I will admit I haven't yet gotten to know others here the way I might." It was something of a relief, not being in Dallas, where all vampires in the area answered to Godric, and in turn, he was responsible for them.

"Perhaps I will get to meet the one you speak of before I leave."

"Do you like jazz?" Anael asked, à propos of nothing.

The segue, or lack of one, made Godric pause, his head tilting slightly to one side. "Some," he answered after a beat too long. "Why do you ask?"

"You ought to try this one jazz club," Anael told him. "It's called Jazzmin. It's in Soho, though I don't know the address." Anael rarely knew addresses.

"I'm sure I can find it." The name was familiar, but Godric didn't in the moment try to remember the context. The memory, like the club, was there for him to find when he wanted.

"Ask anyone in Soho," Anael agreed. He'd be surprised if it took more than a few tries to find someone who could direct him there.

"Thank you. I will do that." He'd probably ask Eric about it first, but Godric would certainly try to visit the club now, to appease his curiosity.

Anael nodded with a smile, hoping that the encounter would do Kersen some good. He hated to feel the vampire so twisted up as he had been lately. "How long are you planning to be in London?" he asked hopefully.

"Not long. I have my own responsibilities to return to. A few weeks at most." Hardly any time at all for a vampire, or after so long apart from Eric.

Hardly any time at all for Anael, too, who nodded. "I hope that you make the most of it."

"I hope to. Including getting to know your friend." Godric smiled slightly. "If things don't fall apart in my absence, I would like to visit more regularly, when my responsibilities allow."
