Be Mine - Valentine's Day 2017

Lucky in love or not, London was a lovely place to find yourself on Valentine's Day. From romantic walks through various parks, to intimate dinners or shared deserts in the many restaurants and cafe's- There was something for everyone, because if wandering or dining wasn't for you, well, there were plenty of organised events to attend.

London couldn't claim to be the city of love, but it was certainly a city of possibilities.

Curnen rubbed her eyes. They felt swollen and hot, and now grainy with the salt of drying tears. "Some big shit hit a real big fan back home, so yeah. No."

"If you want to talk about it..." Godric paused, not sure if she'd appreciate the offer, no matter how sincere. "Sometimes it is easier to talk with a stranger. And if you don't, I offer some company at least."

Curnen considered that for a moment. "Our own Bonnie and Clyde came home and fucked up everything."

Godric didn't need to be told she wasn't talking about robbery, or not predominantly about robbery. And he'd been death incarnate for so long, he'd seen many times over what that sort of violence and destruction could do to those left behind. Not to mention the havoc that could be caused by in-fighting. Whole nests could be wiped out from what started as two antagonists facing off, if the one who ruled didn't exert control to stop it.

"Your family?" he asked, with only the slightest hitch where he almost said blood. Family and blood were the same to Godric, but from a vampire to a faery it might be misunderstood, and she was already wary of him.

"If I wanted to untangle the family trees, prolly somehow, yeah," Curnen shrugged. "But not in no immediate way, no."

"That's something." The fae world and vampires came into contact so seldom, there was little Godric knew of them beyond the taste of their blood and the stories far older than him. "I know little of the... politics involved, but any tight-knit group, what affects one, quickly spreads to affect all." His eyes were soft with sympathy. "Reaching across an ocean sometimes."

Curnen swallowed hard. "Yes. Even people nobody likes... it still hurts the community to lose them."

"Will you go back now? To be with your people." She seemed so very alone, when there was so much trouble at home... It must be hard either way.

"Ain't time," she said, and it was the most certain she'd sounded thus far, even to her own ears. "I'm not ready to go back yet, and they respect that." Her part in the Tufa song had ended for now. And one day she'd be needed at home again, her voice needed in the harmony, but for now her place was to grow stronger away from Cloud County.

It wasn't something that humans could really understand, so she didn't explain it to them. Hell, even to other supernatural beings she wasn't sure it made sense. She could really only be certain of another fae really grasping how that made any sense.

"There's time." Unlike mortals who had to make the most of rushing through their so short lives, fae and vampires had the luxury of time.

And they carried the weight of that time as well. Or maybe it was just Godric who felt it so strongly these days.

"And time doesn't work the same for everybody," Curnen agreed softly.

She took a breath. Released it slowly. "You ain't from round here either. What brought you?"

Godric's serene expression softened and warmed. "Family. We had been apart for too long, and I realized it was time. Besides, I wanted a break from Dallas." And from Isabel and Stan's contentiousness, but mostly because he'd needed to see Eric. The time spent with him was a balm, but also a reminder of so many ways Godric had failed him.

Curnen smiled a little at that. "That's nice." She supposed. She'd never really thought of vampires as having families, especially since vampires were made, not born. "At least so long as you ain't driven each other crazy yet."

"I don't believe he could drive me crazy if he wanted to." And Eric would not want to, nor was he likely to admit if Godric was making him crazy.

"Certainly not within a matter of weeks, at least."

"It's not a guarantee with family," she said, the little smile widening. "I've got cousins I can't be with for five minutes."

Easier for Godric, when his family were the progeny he'd turned by choice. Some became makers with no thought to the centuries to come, but Godric wasn't one to do so. While their paths split for decades at times, he never regretted time spent with Eric or Nora.

"So there's a silver lining to having an ocean between you, after all."
