The Queen's official birthday celebrations might wait for the better, brighter weather of June, instead of the actual date just passed, but there was no lack of things to do in London this week, even if it was cooler and damper than the week before. St. George's day festivities were scattered throughout the city, competing with celebrations of the four hundredth anniversary of Shakespeare's death. Getting around the city could be even more difficult than usual on Sunday, with multiple streets closed off for the London marathon.

There were exhibits - everything from graphic design to a survey of Sicilian history to the influence of underwear. And the same level of diversity could be found whether you were in the mood for music, theatre, good food, or late night fun. There was something for everyone, and no matter your plans - or lack of plans - you never quite knew what you were going to find, or who might find you.

Alcuin had been on his way home; though honestly, he might have thrown away whatever plans he had, for the opportunity to learn more about Eric.

"I can't imagine any others," he said.

He might have wondered if it were planned in some way, though his walking by here really had been complete coincidence.

"Great," Eric smiled, a lot less dangerous than he would usually look. He would keep making sure that Alcuin did not think him a danger, for all that he assumed the young man was fully aware that he was dangerous. There was a difference there, and one Eric intended to take advantage of. "Let's go in, then?"

Alcuin still thought that he was embarrassingly underdressed for the opera, but he supposed that if Eric didn't care, he should let it go as well. "All right then," he said, smiling up at Eric. "Thank you, what an unexpected pleasure."

Ugh, every time he looked at Eric he was sure that the vampire just knew about the dreams he'd had, the thoughts he'd had.

"It is," Eric confirmed, for his part, meaning Alcuin's serendipitous presence here and now. A brief hand on Alcuin's back drew him towards the Opera House. "I should get stood up more often."

"Or you could just call me first next time," Alcuin said, clearly teasing. "I'm usually good company."

"You're the one who has my number," Eric remarked with a smirk, and held up their two tickets to be let into the venue. "Would you like something to drink before we find our seats?"

It wasn't as if it hadn't crossed Alcuin's mind to call Eric, but he wasn't entirely sure what to say. Please tell me everything about vampires because the curiosity is eating me alive? Also if my dreams are any indication, please fuck me, while you're at it?

"I would love some white wine," he said, thinking that a drink would help a lot right now.

"Sweet or dry?" Eric asked, eyebrows raising with the options.

Simply because he did not drink did not mean that he did not know about wine.

"Dry, please," Alcuin said with a little smile. He still had not worked out what sorts of things were unique to certain types of vampires and what were not, and he had seen Kersen drink alcohol before.

Eric came back with a pinot grigio for him, then slid both of of his hands into the pockets of his impeccably tailored pants. "How have you been, Alcuin?"

"I've been well," said Alcuin after taking the glass from him. "I'm pleased to report that there have been no more surprise vampire attacks. Or attacks of any kind, actually, which I recognize is a very low bar for saying that things are going well. And how are you settling into London?"

"The club's doing well, and the number of attacks overall has decreased," Eric noted. "It's been a good few weeks."

"Oh good, I'm glad," said Alcuin. He paused a moment and then added, "I'd love to see your club, actually."

"Then maybe we should head over, after the opera," Eric answered, and then smiled. Again, he didn't look dangerous doing so, not around Alcuin. "But if you think you're not dressed for the opera, you'll feel even more out of place there, I should warn you."

Alcuin chuckled, looking down at his sweater vest. "I have a white tank top on underneath this. Still not ideal for clubbing, but it would be somewhat better I suppose."

"We have a plan," Eric stated with a half smile, holding Alcuin's gaze for a few seconds before glancing away. "So, are you humouring me, or do you actually enjoy the opera?"

"I adore the opera," said Alcuin sincerely, his eyes bright with pleasure.

Eric chuckled at that. "Good."

"That's a fantastic suit, by the way," Alcuin added, which was as close as he would get to giving Eric a direct compliment.

He drained more of the glass of wine; it was very good.

"You don't drink?" he asked, curiously.

Eric smiled at that, a small half-smile which did not look mocking. "Not wine."

Alcuin had a flash of memory to his recurring dream, of Eric sinking sharp fangs into his neck. He cleared his throat, and took a drink from the glass.

"I hope I don't come across as simple," he said, looking up then at Eric. "It's just that I only know the one other..." He didn't say vampire out loud, just in case. "And I don't even know him very well at all. I'm afraid I'm desperately curious by nature."

"I'm not sure there's anything simple about you, Alcuin," Eric assured him. "Kersen and I aren't the same sort. What you know about him might not be true about me. But feel free to ask any question you like." Just make sure you're ready to hear the answers, was what he didn't add.

Alcuin really appreciated that small bit of praise from Eric, though he wasn't entirely sure why he cared so much.

"I'm certainly going to pick your brain then," he said, and drained the rest of his wine, as he noticed people starting to head into the show.

"In a more appropriate setting," Eric suggested with a quick hint of a smile, and gestured for Alcuin to come with him towards their very own box, with a great view of the stage. A glamour when he had purchased the tickets had made certain that Eric would have the box all to himself.

Alcuin looked plainly impressed when Eric led him into the private box. He was accustomed to being with men who had money to throw around (and he supposed he did too, to an extent, thanks to the inheritance), but he was still a bit surprised. When he and Hannibal came to the opera they had good seats but not this good.

"This is fantastic," he said.
